We live at the base of the Pinal Mountains, in the heart of Miami-Globe copper mining district, about 90 miles east of Phoenix, AZ. The elevation here in Globe is 3,800', as compared to 1,700' in the Phoenix valley, making our temperatures 10 degrees cooler (both winter and summer) than the valley. During the spring, summer, and fall months we have many MC groups (including trikes) ride through on US 60, to reach the higher elevations to the north and east of us, and beat the summer heat.

This activity sparked a renewed interest in motorcycling (as I had a couple of smaller bikes (350 - 450 cc class) in my teens and twenty's. I was intrigued by the idea of trike to begin with, but decided to look for a used touring bike that I could ride for awhile as a two wheeler, and later convert to three.

I purchased an 07 CVO Ultra with 4K miles in June 08. It only took one short trip around the block for me to decide that the trike conversion was to come sooner than later, and I called the Lehman dealer in Prescott Valley, to have them pick-up the bike. DJ had a renegade kit in stock, and time on his hands, so the conversion was completed by the 4th of July weekend.

Ignoring the amount of money I spent on the bike and trike conversion, I've never regreted the choice of going the three wheel route. My wife has no hesitation in climbing on the trike for a cruise, however is deathly afraid of riding behind anyone, on a two wheeler.

I ride the trike to work on a daily basis (weather permitting), and average 100+ miles on the weekends. Haven't taken any long trips yet, but hope to this next summer.

Happy triking!:D

She's a real beauty, Hepengr! And she is perfect for your open sleigh ride today! Hope you've got a long white beard and the right belly.........
Merry Christmas :D

I took a short two hour ride from globe to jake's corner & return on christmas day. My route follows az-188 northwest out of globe, past theodore roosevelt lake & dam, through the small towns of roosevelt, punkin center, tonto basin, and finally to jake's corner (59 miles from globe).

Jake's corner is one of my favorite destinations as it has a biker
(and triker) friendly bar and grill with excellent burgers and steaks. I've included several photos of the ride in my album fyi.

Jakes corner is near the jct. Of az 188 & az 87 which runs from phoenix to payson making it accessable from three directions. I have the option of making it a pit stop on several loop rides:

Globe - jc - globe 120 miles
globe - phx - jc - globe 180 miles
globe - jc - payson - sho low - globe 260 miles
globe - phx - jc - payson - sho low - globe 310 miles

Thanks for sharing the pictures and the area information! What a wonderful Christmas ride you had :D

Yesterday (Dec 27th) was sunny and 48 here in Globe, so I decided to head the Trike north on US 60 toward the Salt River Canyon (AKA: "The Little Grand
Canyon".) US 60 gains elevation in the 30 mile distance between Globe and the South Rim of the Salt River Canyon, with a couple of passes at around 5000 ft. Needless to say it was a little nippy at the higher elevations, with a light dusting of snow, but nothing to slow me down.

The trip through the canyon is very scenic with many colored rock faces typical of the southwest. The canyon walls are steep on both the south and north sides of the river, and HWY 60 "switch backs" it's way down the south wall, crosses the river, and winds it's way up the side of the north wall.

It's about 11 miles of challenging twisting turns, punctuated by sharp hair pin curves (posted at 15 MPH and they really mean it!) from the top of south rim to the top of the north rim. Really makes we wish that I had spent the extra $'s and installed the raked trees.

I've posted photos of canyon ride in a couple of albums, to share the AZ scenery.

Happy Triking :D:D

More beautiful riding today!!!!! Nice :).
You would love the rake with all the twisties. But you CAN still add that feature......and you would certainly be glad you did!

Nana

Thanks for the input on the raked triple trees. Haven't had the opportunity to ride a HD triglide or trike conversion with raked trees so I have no basis for comparison.

What I do know at the present time is that the speed that I can negotiate curves is limited by the power in my arms & shoulders, and I usually have a pain between the old shoulder blades after a hard ride. :( Would sure like to see an improvement on both counts.

Maybe I'll make the leap in 2010. Any Recs?

Regards and Happy Triking:D

Hepengr

Hepengr, you need to ride a raked trike. That pain will be gone in between your shoulders. There is that much difference. Nice ride Thanks for the visual ride along.

Welcome aboard, and thanks for posting all those pix and maps--we love 'em. The raked front end will REALLY make a difference in your comfort during and after your rides--I can't say enough good things about mine.

Everyone - Thanks for the welcome and making feel at HOME.

I was finally able to gain access to the network drives at work where the bulk of my photos are stored, so I was able to post photos of the my bike prior to the trike conversion, as well as some shots during the conversion
in June 08, and shortly thereafter.

Regards Hepengr (Don) :D

I took the decorations down scraped the ice off the windshield then went back in the house and turned the heat up to 71. Made a hot cup of java and had a donut.

Temps; in teens with windchill (what ever that is !!!We didn't have wind chills in the 60's) combined to a -7
