First, find a friend to help. Second, find a wall with at least a 30 foot flat surface in front of it. Third, sit on the bike, hold the bike upright and have the friend measure the distance from the bottom edge of the headlight to the ground. Fourth, draw a horizontal line on the wall that is the same distance above the ground as the previous measurement. Fifth, park the bike facing the wall with the front wheel approximately 25 feet from the wall. Sit on the bike and hold the bike upright. Sixth, turn on the headlight, low beam. Seventh, either you or the friend adjust the headlight so the horizontal center of the light spot on the wall is the same as the line drawn on the wall and the verticle center is slightly to the right of the front wheel direction. This will get you in the ballpark, pretty close to home base. You can tweak it from there after test riding.

You can use a center stand if you have one but I prefer not to. The adjustment is more accurate with the bike in as normal a riding condition as possible.
