I had a gift card to spend at 1 of my local HD dealers.

It has always bothered me that the Freewheeler gas cap did not lock. So after wandering around for awhile, gawking at thinks I could buy, and there are a lot, I decided to spend some of my gift card on the

HD Bar & Shield Self-Locking Gas Cap (Chrome). I know it's somewhat anal, but I will sleep better at night.

For the left side I am considering 1 of the aftermarket caps that has LED's for the fuel level & voltage, to replace the OEM fuel gauge cap.
HD does not sell those, theirs only has fuel level indicators.

I really like the sets that have the flush mount caps, but still no lock.

Another cool to me item, is the Battery Tender digital volt meter that plugs in to the SAE charging connection.

It's very compact & I have read reviews saying it's also accurate. I may pick 1 of those up while getting the cap I ordered.

Think I may get a paint saver trim similar to this for my filler neck, last Trike the paint got a bit flaky in that spot;)

My 11 Tri came with a locking cap standard ....[Barrel lock same as the trunk] And one time when i pulled in for gas it wouldn't open, I had to pry it up with my trusty leatherman......The next day i went to the Harley shop a bought a non-locking push button..And the lock is still in my garage next to all kinds of stuff left over from my 11 and 17 Tri...

In my world someone messing with fuel/tanks is a real possiblity. Common sabotage is to stuff a shop rag into the tank(s).Go down the road and the rag floats around and then gets sucked by the pickup tube and motor runs like crap or shuts down.Sit a while, motor starts, go down the road and runs like crap.Repeat till wrecker shows up.

I picked up & installed my chrome HD locking gas cap today & it is nice. It even looks better than the pic & works great. It has high quality chrome & heavy duty construction.

When installed, It will freely turn. When you use the key to remove it, it will re-install & lock without the key.

I'm glad I got it.

I got real experience with the HD locking gas cap, filling up 2x today, both before & after a 200 mile river road ride through Missouri & Illinois & after you've removed it couple tkmes, you got it down.

When locked, you hold the cap & put the key in & turn it CCW fully, then turn it CW 1/4 to 1/2 turn an indented position & it's set. You can then rotate it CCW for removal & install it when done filling, key not required . Very simpler once you know how
