Has anyone heard of this?

In this video...

...it shows that the new filter has the same nominal 5 micron material that has been being used in the standard TC and M8 filter for years.

I suppose I could buy two filters (the standard & the new one) and do some temperature tests. But I don't think I am going to take that time to test some HD parts just to satisfy my curiosity...well, now that I've written that out, I am even more curious! hahaha

I have way too many irons in the fire...don't think I'll be adding that one. We'll see. If I can get all the other things on my list done, I might do it, just for grins and giggles, AND, because I am curious.

That would be cool (pun intended, lol) but the one variable you can't control for is the actual weather conditions, ambient temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, wind, etc., and unless you can find a closed track to test on you can't control for traffic, lights, etc. So results might be skewed one way or the other just depending.

Agreed, with traffic it is a non-starter, no way to replicate. Fortunately we don't have that challenge on the 78 down my way.

I'd have to do it the same day, one right after another, once the temp had reached peak and was gonna stay there for a couple of hours.

Would have to be mostly windless.

Then I have a stretch of the 78 that I can put the cruise on 71 mph for 25 miles (after 6 miles of surface riding), stop take temp, then turn around and do the same 25 mile stretch back, again on cruise at 71 mph.

I've done that same run well over 100 times, doing various tests. Maybe 3-4 times I had to take it off cruise because of other vehicles.

OH, and I never ride within a couple hundred feet of any other vehicle in front of me, so their wind does not change the air flow I am experiencing.

Just got my 1000k oil change & dealer has none of the new filters yet.

I did mine last week and did use the new filter so I guess I'll be the beta tester.

Have you noticed any more heat than before? Or any other problems as of yet with the new filter?

Hi Jack. No I've been really busy with several things going on and haven't had time to ride it but a few miles since the service. But I'm headed for an overnight road trip this weekend - 200+ miles each way - so I should be able to get a feel for it. But I've not taken any temps so it'll have to be 'seat of the pants' evaluation. But I'm not concerned at all. I found my 2018 TG to be very acceptable as it was bone stock as far as heat goes and i think it'll be the same with the 2020. The M8s are much, much cooler than the 110 TCs in my two wheeled CVOs for sure. Just my never to be humble opinion.

Was at my dealer today since the covid19 started, no new oil filters at my dealer as of right now, parts guy didn't know when they would get them in and if that is going to be the new oil filter for all of them and get rid of the short version, he didn't know.

Was talking to the service manager on a few things, he said the dealer can flag your warranty if you use any oil or filter other than harley oil or filter, I told that is bull sh--, he asked why, told him that a oil is a oil no matter what brand it is as long as it is service right. He said the harley oil is what the factory wants in the harley motor regardless, after warranty is up you can do what you want, got in a heated discussion about their syn3, I told him it is not a true synetic and basically I told him harley needs to quit listening to the EPA, he didn't like that I guess, so I left before it got even worse.

I did see a video on youtube that the CEO of harley has quit, curious what this means, I know they are in trouble and not selling like they used to, but so are other companies to.

All for now Trampas

Like you said the dealer is bullshitting you about the filter and the oil ‘Any brand or oil That meets The specifications is good to go!

As far as the new CEO he wants to cut production of new bikes (drastically )and have the dealers focus on selling Use Harley Davison‘s that are choking up the dealers lots causing the price of new bikes to level out a little! ::Ie Cut the supply of new bikes causing The price of the few new bikes at the dealers to rise in price!:AKA Over list!

More non sense from a dealer, obviously he has not heard of the [h=1]Warranty Laws and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act[/h]The dealer along with The MOCO would have to provide the oil and filter under this law and he should know this before he opened his trap

Rode 375 miles yesterday with temp reaching lower 90s. Could not tell any difference in engine heat with the new M8 oil filter. Seemed about the same to me.

I don't have new one like you but my 2018 comes on more often than my 2016 did, sometimes I wish they didn't come on and I know I could turn it off, but I will leave it on for now. Not sue if the M8 is the cause of fans coming on more often or not, I know my twin did not come on as often as this one.

Thanks, My 16 only seemed to come on when I pulled in the garage & shut it off. Must be the M8 is hotter or they changed up the fan settings. Still pretty tight only 1400 on it.

my 19 fans differently run much more often then my 14 did. I ask the service tech and he stated that the 114 is a hot engine (not exact words).

I’ve only had M8s with twin cooling and my 2020 seems about the same as my 2018 and my 2017. Only seem to run a short time after turning off motor.

I ordered an IR gun last nite. When it gets here will check temps at oil filter (old style) *& HD oil. Will change out to a better oil when leaving on trip in July & take temps again. I know Amsoil runs cooler, but that is not what I will use this time.

AT the dealer ,they started yesterday, also will redo the paint protector & finish 1000 mile insp. Thats the stuff, Amazon,Walmart, & some NAPA.

advanced auto as well but our store doesn't stock 20w60 motorcycle stuff

Pick it up tomorrow, everything but the paint protector is done. Guy that does that is still out on medical. I don't mind. This dealer is very good to me. It is not pressing & will be made right. IR gun not here yet either, but soon & then I will test temps. HD oil & old style filter. Before we leave on trip, New oil & K&N filter. Our dealer has no new filters.

Been running Liqui Moly for about 6 years now. It is a great oil. Never had any issues with the oil, or any engine it was in. Just put it in the 20. Best place to find it is eBay, a bmw supplier has the best prices, plus free shipping. There was a huge thread about this oil on HTT forums, very positive.
