Harley Davidson just can't say the words "water cooled"

This is not a slam on any HD or HD owner.
I saw the President/CEO of Harley Davidson on CBS news this morning
While introducing the new 2014 models, he mentioned the "Rushmore" engine.
And you know what, he REFUSED to say WATER COOLED.
HE said it like this...
This is our new precision twin cammed "COOLED" engine.
At about 1:15
He refused to say Water cooled...
I about bust a gut laughing

Re: Harley Davidson just can't say the words "water cooled"

The MoFoCo apparently is calling it the "Rushmore" engine. So what are we going to name it? Water Head, Wet Head, Aqua Dome? I kind of like "HydroHead", shorten it to "Hydro" for short, as the HD folks don't want to say the word "water".

Re: Harley Davidson just can't say the words "water cooled"

They don't mention it in their ads or video either.

I've seen it called "water buffalo" also. :)

I'm going with "wethead" for now. ThumbUp

I like just about everything new on them except the TG colors and there's no CD player anymore. That's a deal breaker for me. I love my CD's - all 800 of them - not going to yet another format. And I don't like having to look way down in the fairing to see the radio/GPS screen. Takes your eyes off the road to long.

Re: Harley Davidson just can't say the words "water cooled"

Harley is so image conscious they are afraid to use water cooled for fear people will think V-Rod. Their consciousness will be their undoing if they don't get with the program. Their target demographics is changing, they are no longer the folks who are traditional thinking, their a forward thinking younger generation.

Re: Harley Davidson just can't say the words "water cooled"

I call them Liquid Cooled, not Water Cooled!! I also have a 2013 v-Rod Muscle and really like it, and I am 71 years old if that makes a difference. pepper

Re: Harley Davidson just can't say the words "water cooled"

What I read about the "liquid cooling"- “Twin cooling cools the heads around the exhaust ports to deliver at or near peak performance under all operation conditions and temperatures.” This is achieved via a small 1.1 quart liquid-cooling system that routes through the downtubes to discreet radiators housed in the lower fairing louvers.
I'm thinking that those radiators are placed in just the right spot to get you some hot feet, if you get stuck in traffic. And... maybe someday Harley will decide to get "real" liquid, (call it water, anti-freeze, whatever) cooling systems on their bikes. Maybe then I'll buy one...I've never gotten my head wrapped around baking the oil while cooling an engine, then reusing that oil as engine lubricant. And why? As far as I can tell, (and nobody has ever cleared me up on this), because it's always been the traditional way of doing things. Sorry, if this sounds like a rant...it really isn't. I've just never had the concept properly explained to me,...and no, I've been riding since the late 70's but never owned one.:Shrug:

Re: Harley Davidson just can't say the words "water cooled"

The coolant does not travel through the "down tubes"!! There are two lines running from the liquid pump below the voltage regulator up into the heads!! Pretty hard to blame H-D for being late in the game when they have been responding to there customers preference (I.e. maintain the push rod Twin Cam design for as long as possibly and keep the EPA happy) for all these years!!

I would say they have a pretty good customer base that stays loyal, wouldn't you??

Sure hope producing the juice to run that pump doesn't steal too many of those 50 ponies.

Re: Harley Davidson just can't say the words "water cooled"

I sat on a tri-glide today at my dealer, The coolant is a pretty pink color.
But overall I think they have a winner here.ThumbUp

Suvcw04, would have guessed for your sarcastic remark you were probably on a Honda!!

I'm betting the coolant is something like Dex-cool, I'm glad to see their taking the 1st step in the right direction. I'm interested to see what they come up with next year.

A/C is next. Just kidding!

Re: Harley Davidson just can't say the words "water cooled"

We have to re-evaluate our new Trike Plans. Thought was we get wife a new '14 this year, trade in my '09 and I inherit her '11 for a year. Then it goes away for a '15. Problem is, I like to remove the lowers and put on the mustache bars. Unless they decide to relocate the coolant reservoir, my no lowers option is out.

Want to talk power? Lets see, every Harley I have owned in the last 35 years or so has always been able to run any speed limit(and more) I have ever run across. But the real power of Harley makes people that don't even have one come on a Harley forum!! Now THAT is powerful!! ThumbUp

AND

lets not forget the Honda VTX, Yamaha Star, Suzuki Boulevard, Kawasaki Vulcan... All V-twin clones. "But it looks just like a Harley"

On the menu page it says there are 945 people looking at the "Harley Trike" pages, 420 on the Honda Trike page. Probably because most of them are here.

Re: Harley Davidson just can't say the words "water cooled"

if you love Harley's as i do and won't own anything else it does not matter to me if they are liquid cooled or not. i can tell you that i have spent thousands of dollars over the years trying to make them run cooler and longer. i personally would like to see my Harley's running cooler and not having to worry so much about them overheating here in Florida. even tough i have not had any big issues it is always in the back of my mind when i am stuck in the traffic in 95 degree temp. these engines getting really hot cannot be helping them any in the long run and can only be hurting them. so for us real purists let's swallow a little of our pride and try to back Harley on this cooling problem.
