Handlebar ?

Just got a set of handlebars [18" ape hangers] and discovered they do not have a knurled center section....soooooo....any chance they will remain in place without being knurled? Should I get them knurled [probably costing as much as the bars themselves], or is there another method. I have not yet clamped them down so I don't yet know how tight they will be held.

They will be installed ~ 55 degrees from vertical so there will be some arm pressure on them. Or should I just try them and go from there? I sure don't want them to move while going down the road.

popeye, I would just skuff up the chrome where I am clamping them and put them on.

Oops, forgot to mention, it is black coated. I can try scuffing, or maybe a small piece of sandpaper in there.

Put some electrial tape on the area to be clamped and go for it, works for me

Well, I tried them on the bike and my worry was all for naught. They tightened up just fine, doesn't appear to slip whatsoever!

I just got my new hadlebars and ordered them knurled.They are 24" ape hangers.Thought slipping might be an issue huh? lol

24 is longer than my 18-giving a longer lever to retain. A lot will depend on how much you will lean on them. Knurled is better.
