Handle Bars --Handling

I am new to riding a trike but have ridden MC for a long time. I looking for advice about how much handle bars affect the handling. I have a 7 degree rake triple tree so steering is easy. I was mostly wanting to know if anyone has advice as to whether the type of and position of the handlebars makes any difference in turning, etc. I am using 6" HD Deuce Risers reversed because they hit my dash. This puts my arms a full stretch when turning.

I found that riding with my arms almost fully extended very quickly tired my shoulders and upper back. With the bars positioned where my elbows are comfortably relaxed and bent, turning/steering seems to use only my arms and minimally my shoulders---and I've had no more back/shoulder discomfort.

I bought these and they worked out great for me. My trees are 5 deg and no clearance problems. They are drag bars - one piece, no risers - and fat - 1 1/4". Watch link for a few secs - it demonstrates the position shift.

I have found that, for me, arms bent between 45° and 90° with the elbows down and slightly in front of my body is the most comfortable. Again , that is for me.

An old-timer taught me a bunch of years ago how to adjust your bars:
Loosen them up a bit and swing them up out of the way. With the bike upright (you may need help or a jack under it) sit in your normal riding position.
Close your eyes and sit for a minute, then reach out like you are holding the bars and place your hands and arms where you are comfortable and feel relaxed. Without moving your arms, open your eyes and note where your hands are. That is where your grips should be.

Good Posts Folks.....I love this Forum...:)....Stock Gold wing fits me perfect...slight drop to the bars with my Forearms bent...Very Comfy, no issues at all.....:wtg:

I put HeliBars on my HD Road Glide. I was able to put them right were I wanted them so that I'm comfortable.
