In September of 2000 I drove to MSP to pick up our new Wired haired Deckle (most people call them Dachshund ). Fell in love with the breed while stationed in Germany. Bought our first while living there (in Germany the hunting line is called Teckel, house pet line Deckle). I meet the little guy for the first time as he came out of the freight claim area. From that point on the little guy followed me everywhere. If I was home, he was real close to me (unless someone had food, then I wasn't as important to him!) Our first Deckle was aging fast back then. For two years he brought a bit of the old her back.
He was hard headed, stubborn, and thought nothing of getting into stuff he knew wasn't allowed! It was just a part of his personality. As for WHD's he was huge. Way over the standard size. He was a giant amongst his breed. Our Veterinarian called him "The Mini Beast". I had to take him for one last visit to see Dr Dan yesterday evening........
For the first time in over 28 years the wife and I are in our home that does not have a Deckle in it.
Seems a bit strange. Except for the first 18 months of my time in the Army I have never been with out a dog in my life. I'm in no rush to get another at this time.
Here is my favorite picture of him. He was already "old" when this was taken.
