H-D Fatshotz - FuelMoto E-Series - H-D Nightstick exhaust comparison

I've searched the threads and the internet in general and can't seem to find an answer to my long list of questions.

Is there much of a difference between these three slip-ons and if so, what are those differences? I'm not looking for loud. I've got SE Street Cannons on my 2013 TriGlide now and they are too loud for me. The cat has been removed, stage 1 air cleaner and I've got a PowerVision tuner. I'm looking at these three and hoping they won't cost me gas mileage or low end torque. I realize I'll have to run more tunes with the PV, but that's not a big deal.

I believe the E-Series and Fatshots are "tunable" by adding or removing discs. I think the Nightstick doesn't offer that option. Does quieting down these slip-ons affect gas mileage and/or low end torque? Is there an advantage to not being able to remove the discs? Open or closed endcaps - what are the pluses and minuses? Are one of these slip-on choices better than the other? I'm not looking at other band/make options at this point in time. I've heard most of them and they are too loud for me.

I still have the stock slip-ons if that turns out to be the best option to quiet things down, but not sure how that will affect gas mileage and torque.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I can't say anything about your other options, but I've run the HD Fatshotz on my 2012 and now my 2015 TG. I don't think they are too loud or harsh sounding. They sound more like power and less like loud. They did not hurt my low end on either trike and they still flow enough to let it pull hard all the way to the redline in anything but 6th gear. I've run both bikes in 5th gear all day at 70 mph into a headwind 2 up pulling a 250 pound trailer and the noise never bothered us.

I know you said you are not interested in other brands, but I believe Fullsac has come out with their own mufflers and not just baffle inserts. I know the Fullsac baffles are not loud so I assume the mufflers would be similar. The plus side to this is Fullsac is known to be a good performer and I think the price was competitive.

Did not know this. Thanks for the heads-up.

Thanks for the review. It's good to know you don't think they're loud and didn't affect the trikes performance.

We have tested dozens of slip-ons and the Fuel-Moto E Series has always come out as the top power producer.

Playing with exhaust as much as we have over the years, I do not think you can do better, power-wise than a tuneable disc system.

It is unfortunate for me, since they are so quiet...too quiet for me.

Fortunately I can come really close the E-Series with other slip-ons using the TTI's, but they would not work for you, they are pretty loud.

Since I know most of you have been waiting breathlessly to find out what I decided to do, I'll fill you in. Based on advice from Kevin and a few others on this site, I went with the Fuel moto E-Series slip-ons.

A very easy install because it used the OEM bolts and clamps, so nothing new was needed. The sound? It's just exactly what I was looking for. The SE Street Canons were much too loud for me and I got really tired of listening to them on longer rides. I know there's a few of you that have commented that they don't think the Street Canons are loud at all, but it's a personal thing that you either like or don't like. I know many would think these are too quiet, but for me they're perfect. I can tweak the sound level by adding or removing discs (I'm using 11), but right now I'm a happy camper.

For those of you that haven't heard these pipes, they have a VERY deep rumble at idle, but sound very smooth. When you roll on the throttle, they make a bit more noise, but to me it's the sound of power and not just loud noise. Once you get at a cruising speed they settle down and I can't even hear them even doing 80MPH.

Now I just have to find out if the tune I was using in the Power Vision can be tweaked to work with the exhaust or is it now different enough that I have to start with a new calibration and run autotunes. I did five autotunes on Sunday and it seems to run fine, not much different than when I had the SC's on, but maybe a little less power.

You can all rest easy and continue with your regularly scheduled lives now that you know what my decision was. Seriously, thanks to everyone that chimed in on suggestions. It all helped a lot and that's what makes this site so great.

Thanks for the report GoSlo, the E-series are the ones I've been thinking about also, appreciate the feedback.

Additional Info please.

Goslo, I have used a Supertrap Supermeg 2 into 1 exhaust on my 07 Road Glide for 7 years and loved it. It had a great sound and good power and torque when tuned correctly with the disc. I assume they make the mufflers for Fuelmoto, but I do not know that for a fact. Anyway, do the E's from Fuelmoto come with any end caps etc for the regular price? I know they come with 14 disc each, but was wondering if they came with a closed end cap or just open end? I guess I can call them tomorrow and get the info. Can you post a pic of how they look from the rear of the trike? I am running a Fuelmoto ceramic head-pipe and the Fuelmoto "Classic" 3.5 inch mufflers. They are a good value for the price, but a little too loud for me. I really do like the sound of the E's and the Supermeg I had. Thanks for any help.

As for the closed endcap, it's included in the cost. They also pretty strongly suggest that you don't run it with the closed endcap removed. I'm at work now, so I won't be able to take a picture of the exhaust, but here's a website that shows a good picture of them and also the optional "cap" that gives it kind of a more "finished" look. I didn't get them because it was another $99 or so, but maybe sometime in the future. http://www.eseriesexhaust.com

They look good, just really different because instead of seeing a "typical" open pipe sticking out, there's a bright shiny chrome piece staring at you.

It's so hard to suggest exhaust to anyone because everyone has a different opinion on what's loud, what's not, what sounds good, what doesn't, etc. All I can say is these are exactly what I was looking for in a good exhaust that will help the trike run well combined with the sound I was hoping for.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I am familiar with them with and without the end cap. I run the one on my Road Glide with the end cap also. I have seen the E series on two wheel bikes. I would just like to see a picture of the rear of the Trike. I am Interested in how they fit around the opening in the rear. I will look around on the web some more. Thanks.

They fit the indented opening in the rear of the bike perfectly. We were a little worried at first when putting the first one on because it wasn't fitting correctly and the opening seemed to be too small. Then stood back a bit and saw we had it in crooked. When we rotated it so it sat horizontal (since they're oval, it will make a difference), it fit in nicely. I'll see if I can get a photo posted on here later today.

Here's some photos I took of the E-Series slipons on my TriGlide

Thank You

GoSlo, thanks for posting the pics. I am probably going to order a set from FuelMoto. The one I am running on my 07 Road Glide is a Supertrapp Supermeg 2 into 1 and it has a slash up which I like. I wish the E's came with a slash choice. I know they have the optional slash end caps, but a hundred bucks each is ridiculous. I really don't like the loudness of the 3 1/2 inch classics I am running. I have a moderate hearing loss and use hearing aids. I have road with ear plugs for the last 6 years or so, and I do not won't to lose anymore hearing. Thanks again for the pics.
