Grandma has a new motorcycle!

Hi everyone,

After many years of no riding, I bought a 2007 V-Star 650 last fall. YEAH!!!

Now I'm working on increasing the number of miles I can ride at one time, and am wondering if putting a trike kit on the bike would help speed that process up.

Any opinions?

Maggie

Hi Maggie. Good to see you come aboard........Triking my bike didn't make it so I could ride longer since the comfort level is the same, but made it less stressful.

Hi Shimpy,

Thanks for the welcome! This is the first forum I have ever joined, and it's a little intimidating.

Less stress and more confidence are clearly on my list of goals. It also helped to learn by experience that I can pick the V Star up off the ground by myself. That went a long way toward helping me relax with riding. However, it's an exercise I don't want to do if I don't need to.

I've been looking at trike kits for the 650, and think I like the kits that are removable if you want to ride 2 wheel but still have a trailer hitch available.

Also, l don't know if I want to put a trike kit on this bike or wait and see if I want to move up to a bigger bike and then add the kit.

So many fun decisions to contemplate.

Maggie

Can't mention ages here (ha) but my Wife had a Harley Sportster for a couple of years and put very few miles on it. After trying my trike after I bought it she said 'I want one'......here it is 5 yrs. later and she just turned 32 thou. Very HAPPY miles (I happen to be 71).
i say GO FOR IT YOUNG LADY!!!

Thank you very much for the encouragement! What kind of trikes do you and your wife ride? Did you buy them new or used?

Your goals as stated, a trike is definitely in your future. Not sure if the 650 is the right cc, but other posters may resolve that for you.

I also have that concern. The 650 is a fun ride out in the country, and it is a perfect size for a beginner to get started with. However, while it will keep up with the traffic on the freeway, it feels like it's working pretty hard.

Welcome to the site. I think most of the people on this site would want something larger but that depends on the individual and the type of riding you do, and trips you plan on taking.

That's why I mentioned it, not to be critical, just a thought. I'm aware, why spend the extra $, and that's me, but I usually spend more trying to save a dollar. A trike is a big ticket item, that's for sure, but you don't want to spend the big bucks triking yours out only to find you're not satisfied.

That's a great idea. Right now I'm just going on theory and other people's opinions. A demo ride would be a great next step.
