Left northeast Ohio June 13 on my gl1800 Hannigan trike and rode solo to Anchorage Ak. where I picked up my wife at the airport on June 27.
We rode up and down, back and forth, hither and yon in Alaska, the Yukon, British Columbia, and Alberta riding back to Ohio through Saskachewan,Manitoba and Ontario down through Michigan. Excellent weather, excellent food, outstanding scenery and an absolutely flawless Hannigan trike. Total of 13,777 miles this trip. This was my 3rd bike trip to Alaska and I'm already thinking about another! If any of you are seriously considering a trip to Alaska all I can say is DO IT!! WHOO HOO!!

Oh my! That is a trip I would love to take!!!! Congratulations on that wonderful achievement :D

Excellent. Bugsplat and I are planning a trip to the artic circle north of Fairbanks next summer. I look forward to reading your trip report.

Saw where you have a Goldwing How did you handle oil change and tires. Did you carry spares?
My bud and I are planning to ride to north of Fairbanks and if the schedule works out, I might drop down to Anchorage to meet the Bride who is thinking of a cruise.

i planned a trip to alaska last year, taking the in land ferry, getting of and riding through a part of canada into fairbanks. i backed out because of the distance and it did not appear to be gas stations along that route. did you have a problem finding gas stations?

Wow, you rode more miles in one trip then most people do in a year or even several years. The logistics must have been a little daunting, such as previous posts have stated about maintenence, fuel, rest stops, laundry, souvineers, etc. That is a one time ride that most people dream of but seldom tackle.

Sorry for the delay folks-family stuff took precedence.

92fsxts- I'm not an expert by any means, just a 65 year old guy who still likes to ride. Each of my trips to Ak. have begun in northeast Ohio on June 13 with about a 2 week ride there. On the return trip the northbound traffic appears much heavier than when I'm going north.

Patches- Yes the roads are paved all the way except where there is road repair.
The longest stretch of gravel was 18 kilometers between Haines Junction,Yukon and Haines,Alaska.

FrostBite- I'm on a gl1800 trike with good rear tires and a Michelin pilot activ mounted in reverse on the front so all the tires are still in good shape after the trip. As it's a Goldwing there was no maintenance needed except an oil change in Fairbanks for over $121.00:D I don't carry spares but do carry a small air compressor, tire plugs and a can of fix flat tire inflator.

Highpockets- no problem finding gas, just fill up whenever you can.

Bustedwing- the funny thing is that I rarely have much of a plan and never had a problem finding a room,a meal or gas.

Thanks. That is good info.

Hey Deadeye, You are an expert compared to a 62 yr old that has never been to Alaska or anywhere close.:D Thanks for that info and if I decide to pull the trigger on a trip like that I hope you will be up for more questions:wave4:
