I have searched and find very little on the issues with the GPS on the Goldwing.
The Goldwing forum has negative and positive about them. I would like to know from this group what you think.

Since I am considering a 2012 Gl1800, What is the GPS like? Worth it?

Have GPS on my 2006 GL1800 and don't use it!! Cumbersome to use and not worth the aggravation, setting up. Get a good Garmin, where you can down load maps; your planned route and you will love it! That is what I use on my trike.

Yes. I also use my IPhone 4S. Does good.

Honda's built in GPS is indeed limited but I find it very useful when riding the twisties. I set the zoom on .5 and glance down that the screen before entering a blind curve. I got surprised once and it was NOT good.... I also have a Garmin 660 mounted that is used for real trip planning. The combination works very well for me. :xszpv: :xszpv:

The 2012 I rented had the navigation, I wasn't impressed enough with it to spend the extra dough. I've been quite pleased with my Zumo 550, will choose another Garmin product if it would ever fail.

If you buy the ABS or Airbag model, the GPS is part of the package.

It is still better than looking at a white screen that says what radio channel you have on.;)

Buy a Garmin and every 3 or 4 years you upgrade by buying a new one. Technology gets better every few years. You new one is voice command , I can call on my cell phone or speak and get directions. Like I said the up grade is cheap and you will always have high end tech. To upgrade the built in is 3 times that much and still old school.

Don't know what all the fuss is about. The built in GPS in my 2012 wing is great. You can prepare routes on your computer and download them to it, and everything else. I use mine a lot and wouldn't want to be without it. I still have my Garmin from my last bike, but I hardly ever use it. There are only 2 drawbacks to the built in unit: 1) you can't switch it on when the bike is moving - the bike has to be stationery to activate it. Big deal, you quickly get used to turning it on before you ride off if there is any chance you will need to use it, and if this really bugs you, I have seen threads on the Goldwing blogs that tell you how to bypass this restriction and turn it on while you are moving 2) It does not display speed limits and speed information like the Garmin - once again nice to have but not too hard to do without. Otherwise it works great!

I wonder if that could be because the speedometer and the GPS will definitely differ and neither Honda nor the GPS maker want to get all those questions about the difference and why they will not sync.

There is a way to over ride the GPS into thinking you are stopped and then able to makes changes while driving. I did this - not hard to do... If interested let me know

I got the GPS model on my 2013. I think it works great. Less clutter on the handlebars if you had an add on. I agree that if the speed limits were posted that would be a benefit. Sometime that you have to be stationary to activate. You get use to it. It does have more features that I would never utilize.

I had a 2006, 2009, 2012 & now a 2014 Goldwing trike. They had the Honda Nav, Plus I have a garmin GPS. I love the Honda Nav. JoeA
