GL1800 Oil Change

You can get an oil analysis for about $25, it's worth the money if you really want to know the truth about synthetic oil.

I use Black Stone labs for my oil analysis. When I had the Triglide I would run the oil 5,000 miles like I've done with all my Twin Cam equipped Harley's. My oil analysis while using Syn3 have always come out great. I have since switched to Amsoil but haven't gotten any oil analyzed with it yet. I think next year I'll pull on on both bikes and see how they are doing.

I noticed in my 2005 Honda GL1800 manual, it shows oil changes every 8,000 on the maintenance schedule page. I know the dealers use synthetic oil, so why do they tell you to change it every 3-4,000 miles. Besides the obvious of making more money, there is no other reason I can think of.

I can think of no good reason, I had the same thing with a Harley dealer trying to tell me I needed to change every 2,500 when the manual said every 5,000. I us the manufacturer suggested change intervals and a good synthetic oil.
