Pre-load is a matter of personal preference. Weight and how you ride will influence your decision as to what suits you best. Experimentation is in order.

Rider and Pass weight has a lot to do with it. On my friends Champion 2002 GW wife and I total under 300lb , we are on the middle notch with 23 lb tire pressure on the rear tires. Still feels a little harsh to me.

i talked to my instaler and he sets the shocks on the 3rd notch and the preload on the bike at 12. so i will start out with that.

Tires back 20 lbs, front using a Mitchlin Active 18/130 rear tire at 42 lbs suspension set at ten lbs. Ride is good steering is awsome with the Active tire ..will never go back to a front motorcycle tire on a trike again ! If you have not tried the Active tire (rear) mounted on the front of your tike your missing long life rubber and a much better ride .

I have a Solid Axle-
Front tire- MPA rear tire mounted in reverse at 41#
Rear tires- Kellys at 22# (24# with cargo trailer or camper on).
I got 28,000 miles out of the first set of tires.

2010 with SA preload at 12 rear tires at 22 lbs, fron tire Battleas BT 45 reverse mounter at 41 psi, not sure of rear shock setting, haven't touched them since pick up. 4.5* rake kit added at 1000 mile mark handle well, love riding her.
