Before pulling my reverse motor which is dead I was wondering if there is only the one main breaker under side cover? or is there other fuses which could also protect the reverse motor?

Thanks in advance

I only know of one......Under the side cover...Is the motor dead like in no sound at all or do you get a clicking sound....Every time mine wouldn't work it made some sounds..

What year TriGlide do you have?

There is a sticky in the beginning of this forum on troubleshooting the reverse circuit.

Not to be rude....but you are aware it's a two step process?

Hey Guys its a 2010 with 35000 on it, im the original owner. It threw the side breaker after running in reverse on a hill. ever since then its not made a sound. reset the side breaker and still not a peep. pulled it out yesterday and I am just now going to hook it up to my battery and see if its the motor or something in the harness/ all connections were tight. ill let ya now.

Hooked motor iup to good 12volt power source. Dead as a door nail. Going to send it off for rebuilding.

pull the brushes if you are comfortable doing that sort of stuff and clean them then try it again. I have repaired two by just doing some cleaning and making sure the brushes moved freely. Good luck

Just had the circuit breaker replaced under extended warranty. It has only tripped one time previously, my fault hit rear brake before releasing button. Reverse stopped working on recent trip , breaker wasn't tripped , 2 separate dealers I stopped at on the way didn't have breaker in stock , home dealer also had to order breaker not in stock

Also had reverse problem.

Was the same thing you were talking about. I pulled the motor out and took it to a local starter/ alternator rebuild shop. 2 days and $65 later I was back in business. I have a 2015 Triglide. They told me that I over heated it.

It is pretty easy to over heat this tiny motor

20-30 seconds backing up, let electric motor cool down;)

Reverse motor problems

Hi Everyone

I have had an on and off time with my reverse motor on my 2014 Tri Glide for the last year or so.. last week it finally went out completely.. I have read on here and on other sites, that the best place to send the motor for repair is a place called Performance Starter/Alternator in Canton Ohio.. Well seeing that I work 6 blocks from this shop, I removed the motor and took it to see what they had to say.. I have found out a lot of info on this little guy.. such as when Harley first started making this motor, there was a small slot on the end that was open to the elements ( such as rain... they could have siliconed it shut )

there was no way for it to run out.. this caused the inter workings to rust and corrode ( such as mine ) later they added a little tube for the water to drain out, this works but it still is not the greatest.. another thing that also happens is ( and they... Harley... don't tell you ) we tend to lay on the button to long or give it a lot of little bursts in order to back up.. both or no no's..

the most is a 10 second button press and then let it cool for at least 2 minutes.. then press again if you have to.. Try not to back up on an incline.. or with a passenger onboard.. they rebuilt my motor and I installed it yesterday.. works excellent again :clapping: I will definitely heed their info.. the cost to rebuild it again is not in my budget.. I thought I would pass the little info I got on so that it may help others

The condition you describe sounds exacly like what I experienced with my wifes 2011 Tri-Glide. The breaker was all good, no fuses popped, only fuse I can imagine would affect it would be the Maxi fuse. Trike would start and otherwise work fine but found the battery was bad after load testing the battery. New battery still reverse motor no go.

Did some searching online and found a couple of options: ebay rebuild swap can't remember price, J&P rebuild kit about $250, new reverse motor, different vendors, about $1800 to $2000. That was about mid to late May. My mind is in a jumble sometimes but I think the prices are close. Of course the motor went out when I was backing it out of the garage to remove her Harmon Kardon radio unit. It went out just prior to the reverse motor. She decided she could wait on the reverse so I didn't spend to much time with it and got the radio repaired instead. This winter I'll get into the reverse motor but the wiring, breaker, fuses, and the now new battery are all good according to my Fluke and load tester. Also read that bad or low battery could ruin the reverse motor. Always on a tender that showed green. Been bit by that bug before too.

I put LED bulbs in her headlight and she swore that was when the radio started acting funny. Coincidence I told her, but that was my fault too, LOL. But then I got to wondering if I had done something, after all it had worked fine since new. Anyway I sent it to:http://www.ironcrossaudio.com/ . Its all good now. Found out there was damage from the handlebar clamp bolts not having enough clearance. There are bolts with shorter heads to allow for clearance. Funny I never got that bulletin. And there is a bulletin for it.

With my 11 Tri I got tired of monkeying with the reverse motor and had a mechanical reverse in worth every penny 👍..
