I know this is old news. But Honda just called me as they are doing the brake recall at the moment.
The service manager just doing his job. Tells me my front tire is badly cupped and needs to be replaced.
I know this already. Its a MPA rear with 23K on the trike, since new?? This I don't know. But I have put 14K on the bike myself.
So.
Ive been looking up tires as everyone does.
Id like to know what the common tire size is for the GoldWing?? Is it 130/70/18 ??? Too many different numbers.
Plus.
For the most part. I look up Avon Trike front tire and there doesn't seem to be a AM prefix, just AV on most sites.
So whats correct here guys?????
Im not being lazy just search deficient here.

This is what I want, I think??

Tons of adds for Avon Cobra but not as a trike specific tire??

I'm not saying this is the only place to buy the tire but here is the correct tire Jay.. It will be my next front tire.

http://www.jpcycles.com/search/search?N=0&Ntt=AVON COBRA AM71 TRIKE TIRE &Ntk=All

Here is the GOOGLE search results: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Avon+AM71+Cobra+130/70R-18+Front+Trike+Tire

Now I'm confused. I just bought an Avon AV71 "Trike" front tire because I couldn't find an Avon AM71 front "Trike" tire. Whos on first???

Exactly.
Are they the same tire?? Or is just one labeled trike specific??
Prices are all over the place for the AV tire.

Avon Front Cobra Trike AV71 130/70R-18 Blackwall Tire (radial)
Advanced Variable Belt Density (A-VBD) construction uses a densely wrapped belt in the center of the tire for stability, wear and mileageBelt is less dense on shoulder for a huge, compliant contact patch
Lifetime Profile Engineering (LPE) for consistent handling and stability for the life of the tire
Enhanced Aqua Flow (EAF) tread pattern for optimal water dispersal
Enhanced Stability System (ESS) design reduces tire flex for improved grip and stability
Also:
Avon AM71 Cobra 130/70R-18 Front Trike Tire (radial)
Aimed at the power cruiser/custom/touring market
• Incorporates sports tyre technology for nimble handling
• Special construction to deal with heavy loads
• Incredible stability and longevity - perfect for touring
• Unique 'snakeskin-effect' sidewall and aggressive tread pattern• Ultra-quiet
Now I'm confused also! Found both the AV and the AM. Both listed as radials and I thought radials were not recommended for a trike!!!!!

I just went direct to the Avon site. If you click on the tire photo you can easily read AVON AV71 and Cobra Trike. Sorry for the confusion. I don't know where the AM came from.... :xszpv::xszpv:

This is the correct info to go by as Gold Rush has stated...

I think the confusion is the way J&P Cycles has it listed on their site as "AM71" which is wrongly listed. As Gold Rush stated, look at the picture of the tire on their (J&P's) page... it says AV71 on the side of it which is the correct model number of the tire as per Avon's site as referenced. All Avon Cobra tires are AV71 for front tires and AV72 for rear tires. Hope this helps with the confusion everyone is having.

I am running the Avon AV71 MT90B16 on the front of our Kawasaki 1700 Nomad CSC Kruze trike and love it. Handles well and is getting good tread life. I have ran Avon tires on the last few motorcycles we have had all with good results all around. I have confidence that Cooper Tire which is Avon's parent company now has done their homework and have put together a good trike tire to match the rest of the tire line up.

None of this says anything about the AV vs the AM. From the descriptions they are the same tire. After all this, its another MPA at least I know what I have.

Jay the correct designation is AV71. As several have mentioned look at the photo of the tire. If it has the Cobra Trike and AVON AV71 on the tire itself you have the correct one. I'm not trying to steer you away from of toward any specific tire but if you are inclined to do the AVON it does look promising. Worth one purchase for sure. I'll be putting one on in a few months. :xszpv::xszpv:

Also, if you look at the AVON sight it gives their product number. I just looked a J & P Cycles site and that is indeed the correct manufacture number. They just have it identified incorrectly. I'm a bit surprised that hasn't been found and corrected........

There is no such thing as a AM71 Avon COBRA tire. It is listed wrongly on J&P's site among a few others. The correct model number is AV71 as per Avon's own site. That was what Gold Rush and I are trying to bring to light.

I currently have a Elite III on the front of my Wing (2-wheeler) and soon to be converted. I will be swapping out my front tire shortly thereafter, when it quickly turns to mush, according to all you trike guys.

At that time I will be deciding which way to go, Bridgestone or the new Avon Trike Beast!

Jerry Ive seen pictures of the tire both ways. With the trike designation and without it. How does one know which is which when ordering?? My concern is the number with the trike designation.
There seems to be no rational between site adds. If I do order it. It will be through Amazon. A few dollars difference but Amazons so easy to deal with if your not satisfied. It shows it as a trike tire there. depending on what site you look at.
Edit: There are 2 pictures they all use. If you want a Trike tire you can read it on the tire. The bike tire you cant see any print and its a few dollars less. Id say its the same tire no matter who you get it from.

When it comes right down to it look for this number 90000020646. It is the AVON manufacturer part number. If Amazon sells it and they do for basically $160 then go for it. You can buy it for less from other places but the price on Amazon is pretty good. :xszpv::xszpv:

I just got an email announcing an Avon tire sale at the following link:

http://www.directlineparts.com/product.asp?pid=109851&str=0&mdl=&mdy=

The Avon AV71 in 130/70-18 for the front of the GL1800 is sale priced at $129.99 with no tax for most everyone and only $7.50 s/h unless you need other items and reach $199 or more, than its free s/h. I think the sale ends February 29th but double check so as to not lose out on the sale price.

Steve that IS NOT the "Cobra Trike Tire". Check the manufacture part #... Should be 90000020646. :xszpv::xszpv:

I wrote about this confusing description a year ago. the only way to be sure is to order the tire with "AVON COBRA TRIKE" embossed on the sidewall. the standard tire listed for the 1800 is NOT the trike front tire.

Ive got this all figured out by part number. As has been previously mentioned.
Ive found 4 different AV71 tires.
3 bike tires with different part numbers and speed ratings plus the trike specific one.

Avon should be kicked for this in the ballz.........

So thanks to everyone and all who still will be confused in the future.
Hopefully they will find this thread and it might help a little with the confusion.
