Hello all...

My wife has an ’18 Freewheeler that will soon be in need of a front tire (130/60HB-19). I’ve got nothing against the factory tire, but thought I’d ask the community if there are any stand out favorites that have earned your loyalty. Kinda leaning towards the Metzeler ME888 right now. Thoughts?

I’m running an Avon Cobra Chrome and I am completely satisfied with it. Handles great, no complaints. However, I don’t believe they ever produced a “trike” specific tire in our 19” size. Like Bill, I haven’t checked availability.

Hi Mark, I recently replaced the front tire on my cvo trike, we have the same front tire, 130/60B19. I looked at some other brands in the same size but from what I could tell, they were very rounded which in my opinion wouldn't have the size of contact patch that I felt the trike needed up front. Also, some of the brands were only rated for 300-400 pounds of weight. The OEM tire is rated at 567 lbs so that's what I went with.

As a retired engineer your response hits the mark. Thanxabunch.
BTW - loved your "what a ride!" closing:=)

Just musing here but with HD going to 19" wheels on the front of all their trikes, some tire company needs to come up with that size tire that works on Trikes. Avon did really good on the 16 and 18 inch tires they put forth for a time period for HD and Wings. It's really a shame they basically sold out and HD now has a monopoly.

I have a tire changing machine and when things slow down I tinker with different brands of front tires. Every major brand worked well. Front tires last me about a season and well into winter riding. I dont fret about the minor differences between major brands on a trike. Two wheelers are a different story. For what its worth and its not much I've found with American Elites ..they never need balance weights when used on my Freewheeler. But on my two wheele they do. Weird. Then we have the run a rear tire on the front enthusiasts that prefers that setup.

WOW - how many miles do you ride per season.

My trike tire will get over 20,000 miles. Have 15K on it right now and it still looks good.

My plan is to change it at the end of this season - have it ready for next year.

15k give or take. I ride year round as long as there's no ice on the road.I tend to ride aggressively. I also change out the wheel bearings every tire change..cheap insurance with the crummy Flintstones bearings these days.My '76 FXE is still running its original factory bearings and probably will long after I depart this life.
