Freedom Rock 2013

Freedom Rock is about 40 miles from us. We've been going there every year since Bubba first started doing it. It's a local must see for everyone.

Bubba is even trying to get a rock in all 99 counties!

Yes, I go there every year too. Normally on Memorial Day but it was raining this year at that time so I didn't make it so I decided to go there the other day. It was a great ride with excellent weather and as always Bubba done an excellent job painting the rock this year again.

Geezzer, great photos, can you give us out West, a little info/bio about this?
Sad thing is - if this was out here in California - it would get graviffied something
bad.
Thanks for sharing.........

This is the info about The Freedom Rock:
The Freedom Rock - Artist: Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II
Freedom Rock is about 2 miles South of Interstate 80 at exit 86 West of Des Moines Iowa.
In my many trips over to Freedom Rock I have met many other Veterans and familys of Veterans who have come from all over to see The Rock. If anyone is traveling across Iowa on Interstate 80 it is well worth the 2 mile trip off the Interstate to see the Rock.
As far as someone defacing the Rock with graffiti, I'm sure anything is possible but the consensus I get from those Veterans I have met and know is that should someone chose to do so they really wouldn't want to deal with the wrath of a bunch of angry Veterans.

It is my understanding that the helicopters are the only thing that never changes. They are painted with the ashes of deceased veterans. Maybe as many as 20-30 I am not sure. I think that if someone was to deface it , the many people(veterans) who believe this is sacred ground would deal a swift justice to those responsible. I(we) go every year at some point.

Well I can't say the helicopters never change. That I don't know. But I do know that there are the ashes of a number of deceased veterans that have been mixed in with the paint.
I totally agree with you. Swift justice is an understatement. My suggestion would be to tie a rope around the offender and then tie the rope to the back of a motorcycle and then drag them down Interstate 80 until the only thing left is the rope fluttering in the wind.
Just punishment as I see it.
