Free Update For Nav/Radio

When the dealer recently replaced my front forks he said they updated my navigation and info center. I guess all this was covered under warranty because there was no charge to me. I swear I can actually hear my radio better now.

You can also do the updates your self but it does not update the map data. That is separate update and you have to go to the company that provides the gps capability for the boom box and it costs $149.00. I only plan to do it every 3 years.

Software updates for the Boom Box are free and can be found here: https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/owners/infotainment/software-download.html All it takes is a flash drive and a few minutes time but I'm surprised the dealer did it for free. Must be a good will thing.....:clapping:Map updates, as stated, are a different matter and cost $$$

Don't know if the dealer would perform the update for you. If he did I imagine there would be a charge for the tech's time.

You can do the map update yourself:

Go to the Harley website, select 'Owners' then from that drop down list select 'Navi Extras.' That will take you to this page:

From there you can explore your options for updates and purchase one. CVO models do get some limited map updates at no charge but as far as I know that is exclusive to the CVO models. Owners of all other models must pay for map updates.

Well, that sort of sucks! I was planning on updating my map data before my upcoming trip. Not sure a few changes are worth $149 though.

Before getting my '14 TG I had never used GPS before in my life. On the long trips I really like it...but dadgum, $149 to get the most recent roads?

Sorta makes the Garmin with free map updates look good, my bike is a 2011 anyhow so Garmin was the only way to go. I update it free very 6 months. My Ford they want $125 to update the map. It must be something they have figured out how to make more money. Think I will buy a Garmin for the Ford when it gets really out of date and velcro the Garmin over the Ford screen

Yeah, in a day and age where you can say to your phone "SIRI find me a restaurant" they still believe map updates are worth $150.00?

That depends on which version you currently have. If you're like me with a 2014 model you probably currently have the MY2015 map database whose file size is 3.2 GB. The newest update, MY2018, file size is 3.8 GB. That tells me there is 600 MB more data on the newer version. Now if we only knew what that additional data consisted of......

Good to know that regular updates don't cost, only the nav updates. I have went through this with 2 different new vehicles where they want to charge you for the updates. The last new vehicle we bought I found one in dealer stock without nav and bought it. It is crazy to pay anyone for nav updates anymore IMHO.

I agree....used to sell GPS units in a boat accessories store when they were the new "toys" on the block and all manufacturers at that time charged for map updates, think Garmin's was $100.00. Nowadays a lot of units come with free lifetime updates but suspect you are still paying something for that in the pricing.

The HD map update pricing comes with the territory, if you want it you pay just like everything else in their world....ever pay $40 for a $15 T-shirt ? :laugh:
