Only 8,000 miles. And 4,000 miles since service last fall. I know, I don't ride it enough. LOL Anyway, we are attending the ICBTC in Nashville in three weeks. Decided to get her serviced with fresh oil and filter. And to have the trike fully serviced. Got a call yesterday to inform me to pull the drive shaft was a three hour job. At $80/hr., I hesitated, but gave them the go ahead. Got another call this afternoon, drive shaft was worn down and needed to be replaced. CSC ok'd the repair, everything was warrantied. Service writer said it is all new parts that are different than mine. Some changes were made. He didn't elaborate. I'll know more when I see the bill I guess. 8,000 miles and I don't abuse my baby. Upset? Yes. But glad they found it before it failed on the road. Tom

That's the best way to find the problem -- rather than experiencing it! And very nice to hear that CSC stepped up and took care of everything so well. Way to go CSC!!! :D

Hi Tango, I guess this is bad and good news. And yes, I agree with Nana that CSC stepped up to the plate to make it right for you (CSC YOU ARE GREAT!). I have a question for you - did you hear any noice from it during your many rides? Like a mild clanking at certain speeds or when decelerating? The reason I ask is I have another trike kit but have been hearing those noises and am growing worried that it may be the drive shaft splines or universal joints. Also, let us know what they think might have caused the problem -- I think many of us could learn from your experience. Thank you and good luck.

Absolutely no warning signs what so ever! I put it in for a complete service and it was found to be bad. I will know more when I can get back there. Hoped to do it today. But massive thunder and lightning storms with hail are keeping me home. So yes it is both good and bad news. Bad, I have a worn drive shaft. Good it happened to be found at a routine service and I am home! Tom :Biker:

Was there a misalignment or the "old/original" part(s) that suffered infant mortality?
I'd be keen to find the root cause for it to be worn at only 8K.
It sounds like 'possibly' the original parts were not up to the task, and if so ........ possibly other CSC owners might want to take a peek at whatever was the bad part/root cause, just to be pro-active ....... least they have some "on the road misery".

I don't know of the cause at this time. CSC is having a rash of failures for some reason. Soft metal? Splines not cut deep enough? Will post when I find out more. Tom :Biker:

Stopped by the dealer today to see my baby. The tech showed me the CSC drive shaft that needs to be replaced. The splines had started to twist and a ridge started that you could feel. The twist was faint, but there. Would not show up in pics, so I have none to post. A new shaft, spring and joint cover are on the way. The cover is supposed to hold in the grease. He feels there should be a grease fitting there also. But it's not his call. He also feels an additional universal joint might be a good idea. Again, not his call. Should get her back this week. He's also going to do a 2012 CSC Viper shortly. It's already sold. That's it for now. Tom
