Fork Leak?

I have always noticed an oily grime on my 2014 trike on the front of the bike and on the front of the running boards. I just thought it was kind of strange the I picked up all this grime on the Texas roads.

Well, today I took off the front wheel and had a new (Michelin Pro Activ) put on. I did notice the left from fork was really oily and covered in dirt. When I got it all back together, after cleaning up the parts, I did notice a drip on the left side.

Thought maybe if was brake fluid, took off the fender and side wheel cover and no brake fluid leaking. It was coming from the left side and off of the bottom brake caliper that mounts to the shock. Could there be a hair line crack in a new Goldwing front fork? Anyone ever have this?

Just for luck try this?
You can pick up a small plastic fork seal cleaner at any bike shop. insert it between the fork leg and seal and swipe it around the seal,it will remove any dirt particles, small rocks etc. that may be causing your leak.
quite often cures the problem.

Check your fork cap, if you had a rake kit installed. Many times on a trike that new, you reach in under the handle bars and feel the upper fork leg, you'll find a "mess" up there!
It's usually the fork cap O-ring that got damaged or was torn during install!

That is the BEST case the worse case is your ADV is sticking and blowing the oil out of the top seal on the left fork. At that point you have 2 options...
1) Repair or have repaired the left fork, or
2) Defeat the ADV, with a small priced kit available online.
You will notice the difference if yo disable it.....

It is not leaking anywhere near the top of the fork. It is on the left side where the brake caliper bolts to the fork. Getting drips on the bottom of that. It is actually under that side plastic caliper cover.

Are you sure its not brake fluid?
If your sure its Fork fluid, and your SURE its not coming from the top, (like around the inside back where you cant see)
Then its either one of 2 things
Is it splash from the other fork?
IS the fork cracked... I doubt it but hey?!!?? u never know

It sounds suspiciously like brake fluid. I would try to make a determination first is it is actually brake fluid or fork oil.

It could be a leaky fork seal, maybe a leak at the fitting that screws into the caliper. You wouldn't think a fork seal would be leaking on a 2014 fork but you never know. Or maybe a dog just whizzed on your tire.:laugh:
