For years we've been working...

For close to 10 years we've been working, refining the process for making more power out of EFI equipped Harley motors, reliably and relatively inexpensively. Ways to get more power without over-stressing the engine, without putting the warranty in jeopardy, without having MPG suffer.

I have seen hundreds of dyno charts from guys that have spent two, three or even four thousand dollars, and they are producing the same or less power than we are consistently getting for less than one thousand dollars. PLUS they are opening up the motor and increasing the possibility of warranty problems.

I have shared information on various forums, piecemeal, what was relevant to the conversation. Most of the time it seems to be completely over-looked, as folks seem to be in favor of spending lots of $, because "you get what you pay for".

The hard truth is that, in the motorcycle industry, one is Very Likely to NOT get what they pay for, when looking for safe, reliable power increases.

I was at a Bike Show this weekend, and it was just sad to hear story after story of folks chasing just a moderate increase in power, spending thousands, and they were still not a lot better off than when they started, and sometimes worse off.

Just tonight I was reading yet another account of a guy (on another forum) that has already spent just shy of $3000, his power is mediocre, and he is contemplating spending another 3-4 thousand dollars, and everyone is agreeing with him, that is what he will need to do.

Anyway, it pushed me over the edge. I am going to start working on an article that lays everything out in one place, showing how to get a significant increase in reliable, safe, power. A plan that can be done in steps, and does not cost big bucks. A plan that benefits from synergy and does not come with warranty hassles.

I am leaving in 9 days for a 40+ day road trip, lots to do before then, so it will probably not get done before I leave. Likely I will do it while on the road. :)

A little over $2K...that's what I spent almost to the dollar on my stage I upgrade. Of course, my dealer installed everything and did all the programming, so I'm pretty sure about a third of that was labor. Let's add it up...from my memory...

$600 for FullSac header.
$150 for CVO Power cores.
$125 for Screamin Eagle AC
$450 for TTS Master Tune II
$100 for new tips for my old mufflers because the ends had to be cut off to install cores.
$672 in labor to install and do live runs because they didn't have a dyno. They would hook it up to their computer after every run to get richer mixes of fuel until they got what they thought was 'right'.

Grand total before taxes...$2097...and I'm sure I'm leaving something out, because it seems like it was a little more than that. Not quite $3K, but way more than the $1000 you're talking about.

The one caveat for me is the labor. I would have to have someone else do the job for me. I'm just not a wrencher, and if I tried to be, I would most likely get in the middle of it, get stumped with everything apart and then not be able to get humpty dumpty back together again.

The one thing of yours I really wish I had was your tuner with the screen where you can adjust your tune on the fly. That's really intriguing to me. Adjust it for higher gas mileage when you're on a road trip, and more muscle when you're around town. Unfortunately I had already spent the money on the other before I even new this one existed. The tuner I have plugs into the computer, changes the onboard computer, then unplugs. I have the tuner stored in my lower trunk in case I should need it, at the suggestion of my dealer's service manager.

Basically, if it weren't for the cost of labor, my Stage I would've come in at about $1400. I'm pretty satisfied with it. I have plenty of power, especially at around 2500 rpm. I roll the throttle and it slingshots me. In sixth gear at highway speed, I don't have to gear down on hills or to pass. It will go from 60 to 80 in a heartbeat. The same thing is applicable at lower speeds and lower gears. I can make a 20 mph jump almost instantly. I have to be careful when I have a passenger onboard or I can give them whiplash.:D

I am looking forward to reading the article I do NOT want to be THAT guy. Can not afford it at all. Financially or otherwise . Please call when you get near MT. and Missoula and I will meet up with you . I left you my phone number in the P.M. I sent on HD forums. I can resend it here or there if need be. Ride safe. Hope to see you when you get here. Would be a blast to go for a ride with you and talk bikes/trikes and maybe get some dinner. Be safe on the road. God speed. Missedem / Rick

Kevin,

Been following your mods with great interest, and implementing the ones I could one at a time, always with predictably good results. Looking forward to the article (I just need that last little bit!)

Ride safe, Ride hard, Ride long!

I need the fans, new air deflector, enhanced air breather and the tuner. I have done everything else that you have recommended. I am happy with the filter relocation and the cooler. Be safe and have a blast on the trip. Looking forward to the article. Jim

Hey Rick!

Looking forward to meeting you "in person", doing some riding, talking bikes/trikes and getting some grub, for sure. Sent you a PM earlier today.
