I'm participating ih HD's Texas Independant's Tour this summer, so I needed to hit some dealers out of my local area.
I took a couple days of vacation Thurs-Fri and took off. Left Home in Spring(just north of Houston) Thursday morning and headed for the dealer in Waco. Headed south to stop at dealers in Temple, Ft. Hood, Round Rock, Austin, New Braunfels, San Antonio, and spent the night in Boerne. Just over 400 miles.
Friday morning I headed out through San Antonio and kept on going south to Corpus Christi, then back towards Houston through Victoria, another 450 miles.
Overall mileage ran about 30mpg. Goes down to about 27 when I run at 80-85.
I have found that if I run at 70+ for an hour or so in the 90-95 degree heat here, I end up with a light sheen of oil on the right rear fender. I check the oil and there is no significant oil loss. Don't know where it is coming from, but I'm taking it in for the 35K service next week, and I'll let them check it.
Lot of interesting scenery on the ride. Only issue was first morning. There I was, cruising along at 70 near College Station, and I see a flash on the low right, feel a thump, and I'm in a cloud of feathers. Stop for fuel about 10 min later and I'm cleaning little gooey bits of Mr. Dove off my jeans and shirt. The dealer in Waco let me use his wash bay, with high pressure hose and some sticks, to get the last of him out of there area between the fork and the fairing. Still fining feathers in places.
