FBI Trike kit

Greetings from Australia. As soon as the flood waters receede here in Queensland I'll be taking delivery of my FBI trike kit that I ordered in Sturgis last August. 5 months to get here but it's finally here, if it doesn't get washed back out to sea again..!! Has anyone bought one of these kits..?? Any pitfalls to look out for during the installation process..? If you own one, what's your opinion on the kit..? As I haven't seen much mentioned about the kit on the Forum I intend to photograph the installation and describe my experiences throughout the installation and post them for anyone else considerring this kit. I was quite happy with what I saw at Sturgis. The quality of workmanship was impressive and my wife and I really like the style of the body. I was a bit peeved at the length of time involved in getting it to Australia but it was just a bunch of little things that went wrong along the way so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.... besides, it's been raining here for over 2 months so there wasn't much riding to be had..!! To give everyone and idea of how much of our state is flood affected, it covers an area the size of Texas..!!

 Anyhow, look forward to hearing from anyone and am definitely looking forward to being a trike owning/riding member instead of looking at half a motorcycle sitting up on blocks..!! Cheers, Sideshow Bob :Flag:

The companies had good write ups in the motorcycle mags about their products. You are the first to post that they are doing their trike conversion. You should be okay. Waiting on your posts and pics

Well, South East Queensland is still underwater but I rang the warehouse where my trike kit is awaiting my arrival and they informed me that they have lifted my crate up to the mezanine level so I only have to wait for the highway to reopen and for the waters to receede and I can pick it up and bring it home. The river that runs near the warehouse is peaking tonight at 20 metres..!! I think that is about 65 - 70 feet above it's normal level...!!! Worse flood in our state in over 100 years. 6,000 homes and 1500 businesses underwater..!! My nerves are shot..!! But I guess I have to have faith  that the kit will be OK..!! Cheers everyone.. Bob

Joining you in your prayers, Bob, but most of all that you and everyone else in the area are safe!!!! The news pictures of the flood are devastating.

Hi Sideshow Bob.

My friend in the USA picked up your thread and became interested in the comment you made in respect to the Brisbane/Ipswich floods as I have been communicating to him the flood situation regularly.

I deduced that you are in Ipswich when you mentioned the 19+flood level.

I am at Durack on the western corridor up behind the Oxley Golf Course.

I am currently constructing a VW trike that I have researched for a few years only going into meaningful construction during 2010 due to the fact that there is a great deal of uncertainty on the interpretation of the compliance and inspection of Individually Constructed Vehicles under the Australian Design Rules and the requirements of various State Authorities.

Have you ensured that the kit you are importing will meet Australian compliance standards. If not you will have difficulty getting a mechanical engineer to offer his agreement on design, materials, safety and structural integrity. It will then have to go to an appropriately qualified Roadworthy Inspector and then to the State Department of Transport Inspection Station prior to receiving approval to register the conversion.

I can be located by email on <lancer@ecn.net.au> if you need any advice on this front.

My friend in the USA has indicated he would like to correspond with you. He goes under the name of 'Trikerdon' and can be emailed at <trikerdon@hotmail.com>. I only know him as Don which is his first name. He has not long retired as a bus driver.

He is a triker and has a significant website all about trikes.

Just type in his name and it will pop up.

If you would like to have a personal chat in the future that would be great.

Like you I am also at the mercy of the floods although I am high and dry where we are. Hope you are too.

I am retired so I have some time up my sleeve to do things mechanical now.

Cheers

Hi Les, Actually I live up on the Sunshine Coast  but am currently in NSW but unable to get back home. :( The trike kit is in Eagle Farm so I had been hoping to pick it up on the way home but am at the mercy of the floods for the next few days. I'll contact you when I get home as I am using a borrowed computer. Cheers, Bob
