what warranty

every thing that happens to my trike I'm told its "normal harley" but we'll sell you a upgrade that will fix it. I'm on number 2 and it runs so hot the wires on the right side are melting with less than 1000 miles. My local dealer can't be trusted to changed the oil in a can and they say if they don't do the 1k it will void the warranty. These things are a POS and are not safe to ride. Wires and master cyl melting?? I was also asked " what did YOU do to it " Harley can kiss my a%%...................

Re: what warranty

You need to locate a new dealer!!! They are hot, but wires should not be melting.

I agree with what Nana said, you need a different dealer. You can do your own 1,000 mile service without voiding the warranty. You have to use oil that is the same spec recommended by Harley Davidson and save all receipts for the oil and parts used to do the service which will prove you performed the service. I also keep a little not book to document any changes or services I do on my bike or trike.

Re: what warranty

finding a new dealer isn't as easy as you all think.there isn't one around every corner like auto dealers.than if you didn't buy the machine there you ain't on their v.i.p list either

Re: what warranty

I like riding my American Iron, or I am just crazy!
I have been riding 50 plus years, 40 on HD, and here is how I survived.
I buy a HD from a dealer, never care which dealer, best deal I can get,
No extra crap like chrome, seats, or Warranty, nothing.
Extras I get from where ever, who cares chrome is chrome.
Warranty, dont matter, change everything anyway, I never darken a Dealers Door, ever.

Find a good wrench, that you trust, do what you can yourself!

Other brands of motorcycles and cars etc. dealers are no better, good and bad

The HD dealers may not be around the corner, but there are 5 within 50 miles from me, there are 5 within 50 miles from you and there are 2 within 50 miles from him, 3 in less than 60 miles. That may not be as close as a lot of car dealers, but to me thats quite a few in less than 60 miles and not too far if your dealer won't or can't help.ThumbUp

Don't go by the mileage on that google map.that's as the crow flys.there are only 2 that are fairly convenent to me other than the dealer i go to and one of those i won't darken his door again as they say.

Re: what warranty

His H-D shouldn't be melting any wires. I think a call to H-D's factory would be in order if his or any dealer can't diagnose and fix the problem. Just because we choose to ride H-D doesn't mean we have to tolerate bad service. Not at the price we are being charged.
Just my opinion.

Re: what warranty

Are you taking about the rear brake switch /wires?? If so that's a recall, .
And a 15 minute fix N/C.

Re: what warranty

Warranty covers almost everything within the 2-year period, no? Dealer has to replace melted wires and other melted parts at no cost to the owner. Didn't think the TG's ran that (?) hot to melt parts. Call to HD Customer Service should be in order if dealer can't (or won't) fix issues with heat.

I know what you mean about google mileage, but I didn't use google. I'm sure that we all have at least one of "THOSE" dealers, I guess I was suggesting, in my roundabout way, that he might check out other dealers even a few miles away.:wave4:

Re: what warranty

Sorry you all are having a lot of trouble with your Tri,s. I love mine and would buy another one tomorrow. Yes they do run hot but can be fixed to ride very comfortable. Tune and ceramic coated headers would make you a lot more comfortable. Most HD riders spend more than that on chrome and and add ons to personnelize their rides.ThumbUp

Re: what warranty

Tune and ceramic coated headers Why should I have to pay $3K or so to have a bike thats " safe " to ride? I can't use it the way it is now and the dealer here in junction city ks or Harley cares that I can't ride it the way it is they got payed.

Re: Reverse warranty

Good question, since mine has been replaced once already. I would recommend calling the ins company that handles the ext warranty directly and asking. Note that sometimes the breaker can trip halfway. You would hear a relay click bit nothing happening.

Re: Reverse warranty

I would think so since it covers all mechaical and electrical components.

Why would the dealer sell it to me if it didn't cover it?? Boy! that's a loaded question. :D

I know my VIP service plan states it covers trikes also.

Ext warranty, Brakes

E warranty covered 2 new rear rotors for me today but I had to pay for the new 2011+ style brake pads...Im gonna loosen off the park brake tho, as Im sure thats the pad killer prematurely..Brakes seem to have a bit more bit:Shrug:e, and NO squeal so far after 60 miles home trip from Stealer.

Up until I got ride of my Triglide the parking brake cables and handle lived in my garage attic, I re-installed them before I sent it down the road. My dads parking brake cables and handle lives on a shelf in one of the other garage bays. We kept a velcro strap to apply the front brake if we thought the trike would roll even while it was in gear.

What gets me is why would you be charged extra for newer updated brake pads that HD knows the older pads were a failure from the start

Re: Ext warranty, Brakes

Most of us have gone thru the brake problem BS and of coarse they usually only pay for the rotors..If they put the crap on then they should have to pay for the whole brake job..

any way the newer Tri Glide owners will not have to deal with grooved rotors and chunks missing out of the brake pads..

Re: Ext warranty, Brakes

Mike..When u took the park brake off, what all did you remove?
Handle and cables, or did you pull the levers and adjustment bolts too?
Im gonna box it & do the shelf with it too..

Keep in mind there is now an updated cable/springs for the parking brake. I have less than 1000 miles on it and can't confirm yet how it will be, but it does feel better. Haven't had to adjust it every week. Replaced under warranty on my '10 TG.

Re: Ext warranty, Brakes

Do you have more info on the updated parts, service bulletin, numbers, etc ? I have a 2012 with grooved rotors being replaced under warranty.

Man I thought with the upgraded brake pads and rotors that the problem with grooved rotors stopped..Wondering what numbers/last digit letter is on the rotors are on your 2012??

Just wondering??

Re: Ext warranty, Brakes

My 2011 has terribly grooved rotors. My dealer said they were ok and charged me for new pads and left the rotors all grooved up. Rear brakes did NOT work at all at first, took it back and complained and wanted the rotors replaced, he said the new pads had to wear into the grooves before they would start working well. IDIOT! Between the brakes and all the other problems with him I wrote a letter to the factory complaining. The factory answered with a typical, we will keep your letter on file, blah blah..... I guess if I want it fixed I will have to buy new rotors and do the work myself. I wish Wilwood would make a kit to replaced the whole brakes system. I know PM makes a complete set but you also have to replaced the wheels. Oh well......

Re: Ext warranty, Brakes

The part # they put on for rotors was stamped into the rotor..The new ones had an "A" on the end which is stamped as well ..The material looked different, but both are of a cast material..The new pads looked different..larger pad area and a rather gold finish to them..new pins looked the same, just not rusted yet..

I took just the handle and cables, leave the levers and adjustment bolt installed.
