Engine Guard Install

That top hole/bracket on the engine guard mounts to the same hole on the frame that your current damper mount attaches to. They don't get along. You'll need to remove the current damper mount and replace it with that 83605 one. Be patient and relaxed for this one, it can be fun figuring it out. And check the clearance between the acorn nut on the damper and your engine guard; you may need to flip it over for clearance, and if you do, USE LOCTITE. Don't ask me how I know! <img src="images/smilies/mad.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Mad" class="inlineimg" />

YES FLIP THE NUT!!!! I had the guys from the HD install mine that I picked up used and a bunch of other stuff at the same time, they failed to flip the nut. I asked if it would turn lock to lock.... my buddy Tiny said sure and showed me...

acorn nut scratched the hell out of the bar... before I could say a word Tiny asked if I could hang out for a half hour while he swapped it for a brand new one....

Going to check the tightness of the nut tonight.... thanks Red!!!

These are the Linby bars that were on my '08 Ultra, '09 Tri-Glide, and now on my 'Free. I took off the crash bars and lower fairings on the previous bikes, don't need the storage space and without them get more wind. The bolt holes for the lower arms are already there, I 'fabricated' a mount for the top bolt and did a little 'tweaking' on the top bracket. The Linby crash bars make good highway pegs.

I like them!

I really like those and the one from Bagger Nation. However, the B/N bar is over $400,too rich for my blood right now.
Steve, can you post a photo of yours, from the side?

Making brackets for crash bars, (Highway Bars for the more sensitive types) a trike is easy. Think outside the box. Remember, the bar will never be used to protect the engine. It's only there to put you feet on. Some scrap steel or aluminium, some paint to match your bike. BOOM, you got foot rests! :pepper::D

engine guard install

About to buy a engine guard off of ebay for the Free. It says I need to buy a steering damper bracket. Anyone install their guards, and did you need a bracket? They don't look like they come near the damper, so I don't understand why I would need a extra bracket.

This was first thing I put on my FLRT and it is a little tricky mounting the the two lower bolts and in fact I purchased two new bolts to it, looks good when done and besides you have to have a place to mount your rider pegs

Engine Guard

Ok, I got the engine guard off of Ebay ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/331782998692?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT ) Turns out it didn't need the bracket for the steering damper. It doesn't even hook to the same place. The top bolt goes into the hole at the top where the two frame tubes come together under the tank. Not a perfect fit, but I "tweeked the bracket a little and it works just fine. I think it came out great, looks and works great as a place to put my feet. The price was deffiniantly right compared to some others. Matter of fact, I saved enough to buy me a new windshield ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/182038097992?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT ) It was a great price too and I really like the black tint. I love a bargin. LOL,,,I also bought a luggege rack with light for a great price. ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/252251361181?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT ) but haven't got it yet.
