I have questions:
1. Is there a fix for the CD changer when it reads mech err? If so, who does it and about how much?
2. Is there a way to get the sound quality from the XM radio as the CD changer? Changer sounds so much better.
3. Why when you play the XM radio you have to raise your volume a lot higher than the CD changer?
4. If you install an MP 3 player, is the sound quality and volume control the same as the CD changer?
I love the way the CD changer sounds through the four speakers, but, it plays for a while then goes into mech err mode.

The reason you turn the volume up for the XM might be because on the receiver of the XM it is not turned all the way up. This is only true if you have a separate XM receiver. ThumbUp

I tried to get the XM radio at full volume on the receiver and still have to do 21 on the bikes volume control. But, the sound quality is not there with the XM as the changer.

The CD players are junk. I had one on my 2004 1800 and experienced the same issues. Called Sierra electronics and they did not repair and suggested I go to an MP3 player that plugs in to the same plug as the CD player and you can control the unit with the bike /CD controls. You can load your MP3 player with (990) songs.

It plays and sounds as did the CD. I plug the MP3 player into my computer and copy the songs I want using file manager.

I attached a link to the unit I have but I purchased mine from CYCLEMAX, but they are currently out of stock.

I did not buy any extra software to load the music.

I play my XM radio thru my auxiliary port and the volume is the same as the radio or the CD.

Dale any problems with over heating during the summer? I read in one review it got very hot in the trunk.
So, when the MP3 player is loaded with the SD card, you have folders which hold 99 songs in each folder, correct? Or do you have to load the complete CD in the folder?
Does the computer program allows you to put random songs in the folder? The GL's controls can't play random songs within the folder, correct?

No issues with heat. We rode in 95+ degree weather and the opposite 32 degrees.

2001 - 2010 Standard or premium Audio 1 - 9 folders 99 songs per folder.

You can load part of a CD in a folder or all of the CD. You can create a fold with your favorites.

When playing (CD1) folder 1 it plays in the order loaded. You can move up on down in folder by pushing the tune/disc button either up or down. Hold the tune/disc handlebar button 2 seconds to move up or down in the folder.

I am not sure but I do not think it will play randomly within the folder.

I use file explore to copy and paste the songs in the folders on the SD card. I have created SD cards for various types of music and one for the boss (co-pilot).

Talk with Gary or Betty at CYCLEMAX or the folks at Wing Stuff about the units. The older units would lock up the CD player and that issue has been addressed in the new units.

I like this setup because everything runs through the controls on bike without any issues.

The installation looks like a piece of cake. I watched the YouTube video and it is very simple.
The part that I think would create a problem for me would be making the SD card on the computer.
I still not sure how you get all the songs on your computer to download into the SD card. Is there a program that has all the songs available, or do you creat a program with the songs from CDs you have at home? Or do you buy a program with all songs on it?

I am not with computers and I have stated that before. So, here is a question, again:
I have seen the video of the making of the SD card on the computer, from the spread sheet to folders, to SD card. That I may understand.
But, how is the music transferred to the spread sheet. I see this spread sheet with hundreds of songs, but how do they get there and from where?
I am sorry if you have answered the question before, but, I didn't get it. It may be a stupid question to some, but to me, it is real! Maybe I need to go to computer school?

I loaded all my CD's on to my computer using Window Media Player. Load a CD in you disc drive and choose Window Media Player to play the CD. When it starts playing you hit the pause button. You should see the CD Cover to the left of the screen then a list of all the songs on the CD. Then you want to click on 'RIP CD" to copy to your PC. But before doing that I set the format for ripping the CD to my computer to "MP3 which is under ripping options. Then just click on Rip CD to start copy the CD to your computer under you music folder. For whatever reason I could not get WMA file to play.

Make sure your SD card is loaded in the slot in your computer.

I then use File Explore (Windows 8) to bring up the music folder and select the CD I want to put on the SD card. Then either highlight everything in the CD by left mouse click or highlight only the one I want to copy by holding the CTRL key and then click on those you want.

Then I click on the song and drag it down to folder you want it in and release it. It is then copied to the SD card.

Dale, you hit the nail on the head, not what I wanted to hear, but I do understand where you are coming from. The answer to my question is...you own the CDs you put into your computer to transfer. They were not acquired from another source and downloaded on to your computer.
See, the video I watched never said where the songs on the spreadsheet got there. But, I do understand he/she must have owned them and put them on the spread sheet.
See, I don't have a good collection of music, but I do like to listen to it. So, for me to transfer would not be great, I would not even fill one SD card, not even half.
Let me ask you & TT Land a question, is there an app you can get to down load music to your computer or iPad?

I am sure there are apps where you can download music but I am not familiar with the companies that do that. I am sure someone else can comment on that.

I do not have an MP3 player as of yet, but I am going to try and make an SD card with music to see how difficult it will be.
This will determine if I do get an MP3 player or not. If I can do it, then I will get one, if not, I'll stick to the CD changer in the trike and limp along with it. I still have my XM radio for a backup.

really expensive. The last guy I know that needed one fixed said it was about $200.00 to get it fixed... he did not fix it.

NO, the AUX input (if thats what you are using) is a different type of input than the Cd changer. the CD changer WILL sound better.
That is one reason why the Bike mp3 player sounds "better" than the same song played through an mp3 player through the aux jack.

The volume of a xm/mp3 player is very low... this device worked wonders for me until I got the Bike mp3 player.

If you have even the smallest bit of computer savy, I would HIGHLY recommend the Bike MP3 player. It hooks to the CD inputs so you get the better sound, and you get to used the cd controls on the handlebars. (safer). Get teh one from BIKE mp3, there is another one out there from J&M, I do not recommend that one.

No it wont, but I think the software that wingstuff sells (about $30.00) will randomize the songs before it puts them in the card

I am a believer, the MP3 player is great. I bought one, installed it, downloaded my CDs and borrowed CDs into my computer then used the program to set up the folders (6 with my Wing), download 99 random songs in each folder, and was good to go. Drove all day today and it played great with the quality of the Honda CD.
I have since borrowed more CDs to download into my computer, so my library is growing. I have been promised an 8 gig SD card full of songs which I may be able to download into my computer. That should put me well over 2000 songs to download to SD cards to play on the MP3 player.
I can not imagine having 2000+ songs available to play on your MP3 player as you ride.

You need to format the SD card to the Honda ​program on Your Year Wing. It has to have the correct number of folders and correct number of songs in each folder or your Honda program will not play the SD card. I read this, but have not tried to play an unprogrameded SD card, because I thought I read it would jam the system. Don't want to do this!
The only thing I do not like is, you can not enter the programmed SD card through your dash radio, it can only be entered through the handlebar controls. I really didn't try very hard to do this, because I was in a hurry, but will try again in the future when I have more time.
If you are a computer wiz, then you can do it without the program, but for me it was well worth it to buy the program for $30.
I love the fact this program will load the SD card with random songs from the computer program, so you don't have to listen to the whole album if you don't want.

I am sure there are people out there in TT Land who have figured out how to "tap" into the Honda quality sound system to get the XM playing like the CD changer does, with quality sound. And if they did, it may be too complex for a regular Joe, like myself, to do at home, unless you have the electronic expertise.
