pingel or kliktronics ? good.bad or the ugly

Initially the Pingel was an improved replacement for the Kliktronic shifter. People who experience an issue with one will gravitate to the other and visa-versa.
It seems that Harley owners have more problems with the shifters than any other motorcycles. This might be due to a weak charging system when they are hot. I had a problem with each of these units on 2 separate Ultra Classic trikes. Both would heat up and stop working. The Kliktronic has a voltage safety and actually will go through a restart mode when voltage is low. I upgraded the charging system to solve them both and they kept their original shifters.

wht happens to them when they get wet ? do they just dry out and continue to work ?

They are both supposedly resistant to water however water and dirt can get into the shifter especially if it is mounted horizontal. Harley has a boot that goes over the clutch cable where the cable slack adjuster is. You can use that boot with a small spring inside to cover the shift rod and prevent water and dirt from entering the shifter.
