Any ideas for a short ride in the Houston area for the weekend of the fourth?

Just pick a direction, north, south, east or west, plenty of sites to see and mom & pop places to eat.

Any ideas for a short ride in the Houston area for the weekend of the fourth?

If you go north up I45 to the Sam Houston National Forest, there are some good smooth traveling roads west of the north end of Lake Conroe. Its just peaceful traveling on good roads through the woods. In the north part of the forest, there is Possum Walk Road that's not too bad. I have been down that road a few time visiting my family cemetery. If you want civilization, keep on going to Huntsville or cut over to Onalaska and come back through Coldspring to Cleveland.

Anyway, just some thoughts. Ride safe and enjoy the peace.
