Ok guys so I was wondering if any of you have found the need to install a dynojet power vision, power commander or EFI tuner on yours bikes. My 2008 Honda gl1800 backfires some on excel not bad but thinking maybe I might be in need in for one of this products. I had a power commander on my Harvey (gone) when I had it and did seem to help. I'm open to all recommendations/suggestions/ tips. (is there anything I should get checked out ?) I'll wait for answers and your views on this subject before I go running to get one.

Can't say I've ever worked on one that "backfires some on excel." Assuming that you mean that it backfires some on acceleration, my thoughts are:

- what is the milage

- do you have OEM exhaust

- has it been inspected for an exhaust leak

- how old are the spark plugs, and are you using the ones that are recommended in your Owner's Manual

- any miss firing

- any back firing on deceleration

- how clean is the air-filter

- how many miles ago were the valve adjustment

- have you done a compression test

I stand corrected, meant back firing on deceleration not excel. Bought my trike in Jan of 2016 with 33,646 on it. Right now I have 37,800. Previous owners told me he had just had it checked out and topped off. I have not done any maintance on it except for oil change so far. Not sure about OEM exhaust, not sure and forgot to ask him about air filter, don't know if valve adjustment have been maded. Compression test, don't really know. So I guess its time to do some work on like start with new spark plugs, change out air filter for starts. I'm the third owner and seller didn't have a maintance record of prior seller. But you did give me a few things I need to change out for starters being plugs and air filter.

Oh ... sorry, this is a trike site, and I should have known yours is a trike.

All trike kits modify the exhaust some, and some modify the exhaust a lot. Any modification changes the back pressure at the exhaust valve. Trike kits that modify the exhaust a lot will usually backfire while not moving, snapping the throttle, and as the RPMs drop. Does this describe what your's is doing ???

What kind of trike is it ???

It's a motor trike and it does look like they did modify the exhaust. The exhaust modification never came to me but your right about that. I'm going to do some simple maintenance on it starting with new spark plugs and new air filter . Spark plugs are in know I need to build up the courage to tackle the air filter. Read were first timers take about 4 hours to complete filter change. Retired so I got time to do at my pace and plan on taking pictures also.

It's Guhl Motors who reflashes the ECM.

If you feel its necessary you can contact them: http://www.guhlmotors.com I'm sharing this link with all you 1800 owners just in case you want to investigate having yours done. Please don't confiscate the link its not spam.

Does yours backfire while normal riding and shifting, or when at operating temperature and snapping the throttle ???
