Disappointing Day

Just got the bike back from the shop. It's a 2009 harley with a Motortrike conversion. It lacked a bit of pull so I swapped out the 32 tooth with a 30 tooth transmission gear. Also swapped out the cams with a set of zipper 525 cams.

Well this morning after maybe 1000 miles since getting the old girl back. The rear axle on the right side broke letting me sit. I am so tired and upset. At least the dealer sent a truck and trailer 4 hours to pick up the bike and haul it back to his shop. For that I commend Leola Motortrike. The owner says it should all be covered under the warrenty. I have only had it triked since last fall not even a year. Just can't see how a 1-1/2 shaft snapped. Ugggggggg

That's to bad, I really like your bike.
I suspect heat may have something to do with it but I'm only guessing.
I have seen cases where folks have tried to cut a bearing or race off an axle and knick the axle with a torch.
It doesn't look like much so they smooth it down with emery cloth and put it back together.
That is a for sure breakage point and it is only a matter of time.
Motor trike seems to have a good Reputation, I hope it works out for you!

Got the phone call today. The CV joint broke on the right side rear. All the parts were in the hub. Motor Trike is picking up the tab for the haul from ocean city to lancaster as well as the labor and parts. I'm very pleased with them for that. I can only hope it won't happen again.

good for you. It seems I have one those days today and am to tired to figure it out.

I feel your pain , we have a Hannigan trike kit on a 2007 ultra classic , after riding 300 miles that day we were headed home thru the Mountains in No.Conway N.H. back to Maine , we had just crossed the border , was at a intersection , stopped and started taking off shifted into 2nd gear , going to third let clutch out engine just revved tried down shifting , let clutch out still nothing , had bike towed back to the house , called dealer that installed kit , said to have towed over and will check it out , dealer called me next day ,all the bolts on the rear drive sprocket for belt sheared off the rear hub, they said it was under warranty !!!! 1 week later called me and said it was all done , they trailered bike back to me in MAINE ,100 miles away for free . :clapping:

That is good news. You got a good dealer for sure.
My CSC trike had a vibration so bad a 70 mph the mirrors were useless.
Took it back to the dealer. They spent 5 days doing nothing that I could see. They claimed nothing was wrong.
Jacked it up and took a lot of photos to see if anything was different from one side to the other.
Found that the axle was sticking out way too far. The retainer lock failed at 100 miles.
After getting approval from CSC for warranty work. The dealer refused to call them for warranty work. They (CSC) had to force them to file a claim for warranty work.
I will never do business with Chattanooga southern power sports again.

If man makes it , it will break just great when a company is good enough to stand behind their products ,,,THUMBS UP MOTORTRIKE ,,,ThumbUpThumbUp

I have an 2009 ultra classic with a road smith conversion and I had CV joint go after only 5,000 miles. A local bike shop called Roadsmith and they covered the repair under warranty.
