Dirty Birds Up Yours Exhaust System On Hannigan Transformer Kit?

Parts2012Big-6154.jpg
I'm wondering if this exhaust system would work with the Hannigan Transformer kit? Also If I can order the kit without the cut outs for the exhaust at the rear??

Hard to tell the length just from the picture, but I'm pretty sure, almost certain even, that it will get into your rear fender. The Transformer body sits lower than most kits in the front and is notched to allow for the stock exhaust system to pass through a semi-circle cut out, and not straight underneath the body like most kits. On Clint's Transformer we had to notch the body even more due to his aftermarket exhaust system.

My thinking as well

I agree with Zook,Dave. Don't think that wouldn't clear the rear fender. As for your other question, all you can do is call and ask them.

My thinking as well. Wish they made 2-1 exhaust that would work and look good for these trikes. If I only had a fab shop... :AGGHH: You watch, someone is thinking or doing it right now; making exhaust for our trikes $$$
Thanks for your input Clint!

I really dont like the look. Thanks though! I have what I want in my head. Kind of like the rendition I did on the one pic I posted. The exhaust wont be red though and probably extend back a little bit further then my rendition and turn down and out.

Just keep in mind that the exhaust tip cannot come back further than the passenger running boards as our boards are less than 1" from touching the rear fenders. However,if you are determined to run an exhaust system like Dirty Bird's,here's a couple of links that will help you find what you're looking for. I hang out over there, occasionally.

We have worked on several bikes with this and several similar side exit 2/1 systems, I do not believe it would clear the fender. Another consideration when considering a side exit on a trike is that with the fenders and a turnout pipe that turbulence and airflow may direct exhaust gasses back toward the rider. A turndown or big radius may be a better option

By looking at the schematic it looks as though the end cap is bolted on with 6-screws. Which would allow me to turn the exhaust to different positions.akrapovic-launches-harley-davidson-open-line-exhausts_2.jpg

I just wonder how much R&D time they spent to build a pipe which makes decent low end torque, vs just a pretty looking noise maker.

here is a video of those exhaust and you can see how far back they go.

No way would that exhaust system fit our trike. Something else is the cost. Our trike has Vance & Hines Power Duals headpipes and Monster Round 450 Destroyer mufflers. The Dirty Bird and Akropovic both cost more.

Im thinking more on the Akropovic. Looks shorter than the Dirty Bird and the tip, I believe on the Akro, can be positioned down rather than out. Not to sound arrogant but $$ is not an issue.

I just talked to Jason @ Misfit. Their exhaust system will work if the collector is shortened.
What finish are you wanting, chrome or black?

A black pipe would make the job easier as lots of places out there can do high temp coatings. Shortening a chrome collector would also be easy also but getting it refinished would be more difficult. Not many chrome shops left anymore as the EPA has just about driven them all out of business.
If I were doing this,I would see if Dirty Bird would sell the exhaust to me in a bare metal configuration, shorten the collector, and then have the entire exhaust coated,by Jet-Hot Coatings. http://www.jet-hot.com/

Now,to ask the $64K question,Dave: will Hannigan build you a Transformer body without exhaust cut-outs?

I talked to Hannigan and they said the cut outs are part of the mold but Im ordering the kit out of the mold unpainted and I'm having my painter do the filling of the holes.

Sure hope you are happy with your choice of exhaust systems because if you aren't,the term "screwed the pooch" comes to mind.
Kidding aside,if that happens,Native Custom Baggers builds an under-body exhaust system that would look & sound great. Before I decided to
trike our SG,I planned to build a serious custom bagger with Top Shop's long, flowing fender and saddlebag combo w/NCB's exhaust.
Sherry and I like the long, flowing Transformer body much better, though. :D
