Different shocks on motortrike staight axle

hey guys

has any one changed out the progressive shocks on your wing motortrike kit?

if so , what did u replace with,

is there a better coil over shock than that comes with kit

i have progressive shocks coi lover shocks with airbag system believe they are 412's

i need to replace out of warranty & before i do looking for suggestions & why?

mine is a 1500 wing , not sure makes a difference than the 1800 on the kit

funny you should bring this up.
I check on this same thing years ago. and motortrike told me I had to contact progressive. so I talked to progressive at a bike rally and was told since those shocks were made exclusive for motortrike that I had to contact motortrike.
I took those shocks off and discovered that the bottom eye on those are welded to one side. I tried putting on a set of regular motorcycle shocks and they would not work because the bottom of the shock hit the rear end housing before they were on the stud the whole way.
so the only way I can see that another type of shock would work would be to redo the bottom mount to keep the shock away from the rear.
my guess is if you think those shocks are getting bad you could send them back to progressive for rebuild.

Measure the length of the shock from eye to eye. Call their tech line and give them the information about the length and eye location at the bottom. Examine the spring on the shock for spring rate numbers. Unless you can find this information from a MotorTrike builder or owner, the research is yours. I am doing the very same thing for a Lehman coil-over right now.
