Springfield.
Last week got informed I got diabetes, 579 score, need to be under 100, after 6 days 250ish. eyes still blurry with glasses, fine without for distance, need for reading but blurry. Anyone gone through this, on meds for now. Getting old sucks.

Yep, sure did. I had two strokes, went to the hospital and upon check-in I was over 900. Been a little over a year and all is under control now. Take a shot every morning and take a pile of pills every day but what the heck, I'm still here.

Started out with four shots a day plus meds and have worked myself down to one shot (Victoza) in the AM plus meds. More meds = less shots for me. I have lost some weight and feel better each day. Do not let this round with diabetes back you down any, it can be dealt with! Diet, portion control and exercise are your friends.

Biggest reason I bought a trike was because of my health and now I am glad my health "showed me the light" :clapping:

Type 2 diabetes since March 1999. The last few years I have been very bad about taking care of myself. My A1C 12.6, working to get that down. They just changed me to a different insulin...Humalog 75/25, 2 shots a day and I have a free trial of the newer medicine called Invokanna for a year to see if that helps. I go Monday to the dietician and in June to a workshop. Hopefully I will be much better at taking care of myself. I did do the Atkins diet a year and a half ago, it's a very low carb diet and my blood sugar went way down. I cut back most of my insulin and would still get up to glucose levels in the 40s and 50s....carbs are not my friend. I'm hoping the dietician will work with me on a low carb diet. I felt fantastic and I lost 20 lbs and had so much energy I didn't know what to do with it all.

I started a little on line blog, it's still up I had to release my energy somehow I was driving my friends and family nuts. www.holdthecarbsplease.com lots of yummy foods to eat (I took pics lol) And my A1C dropped like crazy. I started making it through the holidays in 2013 with no problems sticking to Atkins. I had detoxed off sugar and carbs and never missed it. Then I had a close friend die and it sent me into a spin and I went back to my sugar comfort food. It is doable and I really want all the energy and fantastic feeling I had when I was on Atkins again. Just follow your Dr's orders. I have a new Dr I just started seeing and I really like him.

Good luck! If I can answer any questions or help just ask.

I just found out this last week I had it. A1c is 9.5, sugar is 226. My Dr. has me on Invokamet 150/500mg. I'm also doing the Atkins diet. I hope to get this down in the next month or so.

Getting old does suck :) My eyesight got bad and I thought it was from diabetes but I had cataracts, small but right in my vision line. Had them removed, now have monovision with the lens implants and 20/20 vision in each eye (right distance, left up close).

Been at it since 1999, I'm what they call type 1 1/2. I've been using Novolog and Lantus plus taking metformin ER to help with dawning. Got tired of sticking a needle in myself 4+ times a day so I went to a pump. I'm using an Omnipod insulin pump, best thing I've done to date. I got rid of the Lantus and the Metformin, and only have to stick myself to check my sugar.

The thing that surprises me is that my eyes got better, used to need glasses all the time, now only to read.

Exact same thing I went through not too long ago. Doesn't last long. But was interesting to not need glasses for a few weeks. Dr's often refer to this as the "honeymoon" stage. In my case I have started producing some insulin again. They say it will be about a 6 month or so deal then back to needing insulin again.

The blood vessels in your eyes swell when your sugar is high, thus changing the shape of the eye and resulting in a change of vision. When you sugars get back to normal range your eyesight will return to what it was.

Kind of feedback I'm looking for, thanks. Is kind of a PIA to keep switching glasses , to no glasses. Also I got corrective lenses on my drivers license, so I'll need to keep glasses nearby if I get stopped.

Dianne takes 3 different insulin shots a day. She wont admit it, but her vision isn't that good. The last time she was over 500 was after a biker party involving great amounts of Jager Meister. And I had to test her, figure out the dose and administer the shot. She did drink these seasoned bikers under the table.
They make these easy to use pen needles now, so you don't have to mess with syringes.

Got diagnosed with type 2 (420). Went on a low carb diet, 3 weeks later I"m not over 140 any time of the day. May not be for everyone, but it sure worked for me.

Diabetes

Been on the needle since 98, I am on Lantis only, was 40 units 1 time a day. Met someone at a Rally in Maggie Valley NC, He told me that he was adding cinnamon to his daily meds for Diabetes.I am now taking 1000 units in the AM and the same at PM, To make a long story short, My A1C has dropped down to 7.9. My problem is that I weigh 145lbs. I am like a rubber ball, I spike high then to low. {crash] To all that have this, Please stay on top of it, Thanks Charlie in NC

That's a lot of Lantus for someone your size, do you see an Endo? Until just recently I was taking 30 units of Lantus and 1 unit per 8 grams of carbs of Novolog, then topping it off with 2,000 mg of Metformin ER once per day. I weigh 230 and my control was pretty darn good, A1C running between 6.3 and 6.5. I just made the switch to a pump because I've grown tired of sticking my self 4 - 5 times a day and also doing it at the table in restaurants. Now all I do is take Novolog, I ditched the Lantus and the Metformin.

Your right, a person has to stay on top of it.
