defects

I'm new to trikes, and motorcycles in general, but I am seriously considering purchasing a Tri Glide. I was doing some research online and found that recently there have been a few cases (at least 2 I know of) where the steering and brakes on Harley trikes have "locked up" or malfunctioned and led to serious accidents for experienced riders. I figured those more informed in here may have heard of any design defects in the new Harley trikes. Thanks for your help in advance! RD

Haven't heard of any accidents from steering or brakes locking up. The TG steering is one of the best features of it's handling. The rear brakes have always been our complaint for being inefficient---only 9" rear rotors as opposed to 11.5" on the front. Some of the other trike kits have at least 11" rotors in the rear with larger pads to match.

There have been two incidents of a rear tire coming off. First one was tragic, second one they where very lucky. It is on another forum.

Ack Am hoping this isn't the case :AGGHH: as just picked up the new Triglide Trike this afternoon. What WAS miserable was couldn't for the life of me
get it in neutral while at the Harley showroom. But knew if i could
just get to the freeway would be OK. What a nice ride on the freeway.
Got off the freeway about 10 miles from home and stopped to have
dinner and pick up a pair of glasses then off down the road. Good
news was am finally getting the hang of getting it in neutral at the
lights. The trick is shift into neutral at 10 mph. :D Bad news is i
got totally christened by a big downpour for the last couple of miles
and of course didn't have the good helmet nor rain gear on. Managed
to get back to storage in one piece and am looking forward to doing
the ride tomorrow to continue to break it in and get it ready for the
long road trip. Bike is really nice in the sun. Much better than it
looked on the showroom floor.
;)

A lot of folks are using Redline Shockproof Heavy for transmission fluid. I know when I switched to it, it was like night and day difference and shifting into neutral at a dead stop now is super easy.

+1 on the Redline! It will also get better after a couple thousand miles break-in.

Getting the trike into neutral has been an on-going conversation; something about the trans that does not like going into neutral and with syn trans fluid and 8,000 miles on my trike it still has a mind of it's own. Every time I go to put into neutral I say a quick 3 second prayer. Gotta love it even with all it's quirks

I could not get mine in Neutral unless the engine was not running or still moving before coming to a stop. Took it back to the dealer and put Amsoil 75-140 gear oil in and they readjusted the clutch. Now it works like a dream. Better than my 2010 Ultra did.

It's all in clutch adjustment.

:Agree: Clutch adjustment makes a huge difference. For the most part there is not much bad about the Triglide. The unfortunate who have had rear wheels come off I think had a bum dealer do their work, people would be amazed at what a bad dealer or mechanic will do. The dealer I used to do business with won't let the customer even see into the service dept, they blocked off the windows in the lounge which had a view of the work area. After finding loose bolts and other short cuts on both mine and my dads Triglide I can understand why they don't want the customer to see the shoddy work taking place. Needless to say we no longer visit this dealer.

Clutch and primary chain adjustments make a huge difference . On my evo trike when I changed to the barnett clutch and replaced the primary chain it now shifts into neutral like butter now.

As for my Tri glide it is ok but I know if some changes where made I could get it to neutral that same as my evo trike.
