Damn rear speaker nuts

I was going to take off my left rear speaker and install a drink holder for the Babe on the Back. Imagine my surprise when the ratchet kept turning and turning the bolt portion without backing out. I removed the speaker and saw the nuts turning in the speaker box. My question is,, is there an easy way to get these cursed things out? I tried needle nose between the ears on the nut, vice grip and am just about ready to cut the head off the bolt and start with new. My theory is that they were cross threaded at the factory. I have had them off many times on previous bikes. This one has me stumped.

I too had that problem on my 2018 TG but I was able to remove the speaker and hold the nut from the inside while I unscrewed the bolt. Not sure why that's not working for you but hope you get it figured out.

I just had my left rear Stage II speaker come loose. The retainers pulled out. Dealer put in new retainers - they also pulled out. The old parts manager said they used the wrong retainers, they used the standard ones and should have used the Stage II retainers. They have a bigger collar. Two months later the speaker is doing fine. I didn't know there was 2 different speaker screw retainers. Don't know if the front speakers have the same retainers.
