CSC trike trailer hitch

hitch doesn't look strong to me, anyone got input on how their hitch handles a trailer.

I pulled a 5x9 empty with mine 14 miles. It did not stop very good. I don't think I would try it again. I do pull my small trailer ( approx 500lb loaded ) up to Americade riding double. Gas mileage drops into the low 30's. I can stand on my hitch and bounce the trike up and down. Y do you feel it is not right?

someone with a CSC hitch would know what I'm talking about, it looks like a big U from the side, 5" tall, and if you pulled something it would pull the U wide open. A CSC with a hitch owner would be able to tell me if their hitch does this.

Looks like you have a Viper: http://www.californiasidecar.com/downloads/VIPER_Installation_Instructions.pdf Page 21 is the hitch, if it came with your kit. If it didn't you need to talk to your installer and see what he installed or made..?

Yea that's it, its just with the bends and being just flat stock it seems like towing a trailer it would just bend into a flat piece. How I thought it was U shaped I don't know, I'm just concerned that when towing would cause it to bend abnormally. Wishing a CSC owner with the same hitch would chime in that theres nothing that would happen when I tow with it..

It does look weak being flat. CSC rates it at 55 lbs tongue weight max. I pulled my Kwick Kamp from GA to the Arctic Circle in Alaska and back with it and had no problems. I had a hard time keeping the tongue weight down but generally had about 48-52 lbs which I adjusted by putting bottled water in the very rear of the trike. I also had a soft cargo carrier on top with 3 gallons of extra gas packed as far back as I could get it.

I'm sure it's tempered spring steel as most flat receivers are.... they're not made for much over 30 - 50# Tongue weight. Your owners manual should tell you. Mines 1 1/4" sq. and I try to keep it about 30# and the trailer (cargo) no more than 250#

Before I bought my CSC hitch I corresponded with a gentleman on this site who used his with a cargo platform.. He said he put a rather large cooler on the back, packed it with a weeks worth of lunches and drinks and road with it. It was, (if my memory serves me correctly) a 24 or 26 inch cooler. He said it bounced around a lot and scared hell out of folks that followed him to closely but he said he never had a problem with it.

I've stood of mine and jumped up and down and it seemed strong enough, but I only weigh 180 so I don't know if others would have the same experience.

I have a 2012 Viper with 27,000 miles. My trailer 400 lbs loaded no problems yet.

I have the Cobra kit and I pull my trailer loaded heavy at times with no problems yet. I was concerned when I first saw the hitch and I put my big cooler in the rear of the trailer because it is heavy loaded with food and ice. I put a dry sack with my sleeping bag and bedding and some clothes on the cooler rack to keep down tongue weight. But now I have my confidence built up to where I don't worry about tongue weight anymore<img id="ums_img_tooltip" class="UMSRatingIcon">

Can you take a picture of your hitch ?? I've been pulling my trailer with the

KRY hitch and never had a problem . I goes where you want it to go.

I put a swivel on the tongue of the trailer. It works.

The photo of that CSC hitch appears to be stroner constructed than the ones we used to put on our 2-wheelers and never heard of a problem with them.
Also remember that mororcycle type trailers are designed for 2-wheel motorcycles which have lighter frames and lighter tognue weight.Don't know of anyone yet making a trike specific trailer,which I'm sure would be wider.
Most people will say "I can't even tell it's back there",however it's a good idea to look once in a while.
I have an older CSC with the 1 1/4" receiver,I pull a CSC Escapade SE and it looks small behind our trike,however had a flat bar type hitch on my van,pulled trailers all over with no problem.

3 of the guys I ride with have CSC trikes.
They all pull trailers and haven't had any problems.
I agree to check the tongue weight each time you use it.

The only thing I used my CSC hitch for was to hold a Pak-It-Rack.
Fully loaded, it probably weighed close to 40 pounds.
Going down the road, you never knew it was back there.

The hitch is 1/2 x 2 1/4. It will take more than a 400 pound trailer to bend it.

I have a 2013 CSC Cobra XL Trike Kit on my 2009 GW, I have a Trailer that I bought at Harbor Freight (the one that comes with the luggage tote mounted to it). I filled it with flats of water and Gator Aid which I pulled it from Lawton OK to Moore OK (approx. 115 miles) in the aftermath of the Moore Tornado. I filled that trailer till no more would fit. I then filled my trunk and top box with as many dried goods as I could and my daughter and I took the stuff to Moore. My Trike and trailer did outstanding, my gas mileage did suffer a bit, but the trailer pulled just fine without any issue. I to have the Chrome Flat Steel (approx. 1/2 in thick and 2 inches wide), it is the same as a class 1 receiver that Reese Hitch and U-Haul sells and it's been working for them.ThumbUp

I pull a Hanningan Sierra trailer behind a '99 GL1500SE with a CSC trike kit and have had no problems. Wife and I will pack enough to go away for 3 or 4 days at a time plus carry some stuff for our road mates without concern. Pulls, handles and performs great.

It will hold.
This is a 48 qt cooler loaded down with ice, water, and sodas. I did not weigh it but it is a lot more weight than normal trailer tounge weight and I have hauled it on many long trips.





and it will pull a loaded down trailer too

I have pulled trailers with loaded weight of 4-550lbs and have had no problems but don't like the way it moves up and down if pushed down. The movement is caused by way its installed on the differential. Which moves some. I think u will be ok.

I have the CSC with the flat hitch. Used it on a few shopping trips and also on a 1200+ mile trip. No problems at all. It does flex a lot, but when you have the trailer on it seems to pull good. I'm happy with it, as long as it is pulling a trailer.

I have a 2010 CSC Cobra with their hitch. I pill a bushtec trailer with a front mounted cooler. This trailer tags right along without any wobble.
