CSC Half Shaft Problem

I have a 2006 Harley Ultra Classic with a CSC trike kit on it. I had been noticing a noise in 5th gear and when decelerating and while chasing it down noticed that the half shaft seemed floppy and with further inspection, that it had pulled out of the center section. I can generally figure out things mechanically and just wanted thoughts on what caused this? Is there a clip that holds the half shaft in place or is it just a slip fit?

Yeah, that axle does not look right, the surface between the spline and the joint is a bearing surface. That should be in the rear end. Most axles use a circlip on the inside

Update

I took the clamp for the CV joint off and slid the boot down. I as then able to tap the joint with a hammer and get it to go back on the splined shaft coming out of the center section. I didn't notice a slot for a clip on the end of the splined shaft though that would go into the CV joint.

Good, I wonder why the joint worked its way out? Have you done any recent work on the axle area ?
