Couple of additions

Hey All, Hope you are all enjoying your rides and the season. I am every chance we get. there are however a couple of additions I would like to include.
1. not having a schematic (electrical) for my bike, I ask is it worth purchasing a service manual? are the schematics in the manual legible?
As I would like to install a trailering harness, also a set of LEDs on the back of the rear speakers.
2. Planning on doing some camping and was wondering if anyone has used their on board compressor to inflate an air mattress if so can you direct me to a means of achieving this feat.
Thanks in advance:wave4:

Just received a PM. from a member who Will remain nameless stating that I do not own a gl1800 as on board compressors were only in stalled on GL1500 and did come with a extension hose to fill up a tire. Well shucks my ownership states it as a GL1800 and I push a little button and I can install air and the back end rises slightly then when I am alone I can dump air if I am solo and trunk empty. And believe me there are more than a few ways for me to dump air. LOL
Think he was tryin to help but ..............:AGGHH:

With all due respect Blackwillow, the GL1800 DOES NOT have an on board air compressor like the 1500. The 1800 will adjust the rear suspension using an electric pump and hydraulics but no air. I owned a 1500 for ten years and now have an 1800.

Additionally, the 1500 air pump is a high pressure/low volume air compressor for tire inflation and would not be suitable to inflate an air mattress as it would take a very long time and probably burn up the pump.

As far as the electrics go I am sure if you will search the different GL1800 forums you can probably find any info you need for your projects. Good luck.

OK so as a few of you may know, I admit I am new to the Wing. Are we sayn that the means by which that I inflate my suspension is hydraulic??? This makes no sense as I am not aware of a hydraulic pump that services this area. Work with me here!!!

If you plan on doing any type of work on your bike the factory manual is a must. Fred Harmons videos are nice but there are some things that get done that the manual is a little bit more explicit with their explanations. The way the electrical schematic is laid out is quite precise and intelligible and is worthy of a bike that expensive. Your hydraulic pump for the rear suspension is located behind the rightside saddlebag and gives your rear suspension shock about a half inch of preload in full travel.

The stock suspension on a 1800 Goldwing is hydraulic. I have a Motortrike Adventure Trike kit and they scrap the hydraulic unite and install a air compressor to inflate the rear air shocks. The compressor is not adequate to supply air for other accessories. Go to Walmart and get a 12 volt Slime air compressor for tires (around $12.00) to keep on the bike. You will need to wire in a fused 12 volt 10 amp. power plug to the battery to run the compressor.

If you are going to do maintenance on your Goldwing I recommend you get the Honda Service Manual. The manual comes in either paper or CD. I have the CD version and can print the pages if I need them. If you do a lot of maintenance work on your Goldwing the set of CD's that Fred Harmons sells is worth the cost. Their are lots of videos on the internet if you only install plug & play accessories.

Thanks all for the responses. I guess I am still confused but need to have a look under there my self. Mine is a 2012 Motor trike conversion on a 07 Black Metallic Wing. I could swear when I dump pressure when riding solo or unloaded I can hear air exhausting through a valve. Guess I'll have to go for the manual as my owners manual doesn't seem to show the air filter placement. Did the first oil change and had to take off the aqua shields as they were fastened to the front lower cowling to get at plug and filter. I have decided not to put them back on.ThumbUp

Probably the confusion is because most of the responses to your query thus far have addressed the bike's suspension system, there has been no previous reference to a trike......if you have a Motor Trike Adventure it does have an on-board air compressor that was added at conversion. This unit does not have the capacity or capability for external air usage.

Blackwillow: I have the aqua shields on my 2005 GL with a 2010 MT kit. I don't have to take the shields off just to change oil???? I even have a modified "Belly" pan installed to protect the oil filter from rocks. It has two screws holding it on. I just remove those two screws and can get at the oil filter and oil plug just fine. I would be pissed as hell if I had to remove the aqua shields just to change oil.

Like, and /or appreciate the responses thus far but not knowing I had to deal with in, the exact unit I was riding did not come up on the options menu. Not exactly computer savvy, have my expertise in other areas.
Have approached Motor Trike since March of this year with an issue and as yet it, to have it resolved!!!!

I have at this poin, made over 8 calls and Documented all of them and have yet to have this issue resolved.

I will not at this point, name names or discuss in detail events pending, until this issue is resolved to my satisfaction.

Motor trike is a fine product but experiences, what I believe to be growing pains. Which is totally understandable. but......
