I am currently shopping for a trike and am considering the new 2012 TriGlide. Does anyone already have one of these and what are some of the pros and cons that you have experienced?

I am looking at the Harley as it's the only trike on the market that is fully dealer supported and come with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty on the engine and drive train.....

Please chime in and let me know. I'll be making my purchase within the next few weeks so anything that can be posted will certainly be helpful.

THANKS!!!!!

First of all, take it out for a test ride, it's a different animal than a 2 wheeler. I installed a rear bumper on mine after I got it home, easy install, but if you can bargin with the dealer on the sale it's a wise investment I believe.

I was looking at the rear bumper along with the light bar that goes in the same area.

I was at the dealer last Saturday looking at the Blue/Black model. Naturally, I did get a salesperson to talk to me about it. The trike was outside and a mechanic had come out to pick up a bike for maintenance, he was also the "trike" person for the dealership and he took about a half hour out of his day to let me in on a few of the "quirks" of the bike. Like the rear brakes....he said that he felt they were a little undersized. But good overall as long as you don't "ride the brake"......

Fortunately, due to a recent insurance settlement, I'll be looking at a full ca$h deal and figure that I might get a decent deal that way. No financing or any of that other stuff that normally takes forever to do.

It was mentioned about the extended warranty. Is that something I should be considering as well?

but if you can bargin with the dealer

Don't be afraid to pit on dealer against another.

I also have a 2012 Trike and the only problem I had with it was the heat off the catalytic converter that's right under your right foot. To get rid of the heat I had the dealer change the head pipes out to Vance & Hines and leave the stock exhaust. Big mistake! The mufflers are real raspy now and sound like the clapped out 250. From what I read now, Fuel Moto are the pipes to go with for good sound.

:party::party:Welcome. I live on the NN side of Williamsburg and ride a 2010 TriGlide.
I think the main issue with all the 2010 and up Trikes is heat. I have a FulSac head pipe and Vance and Hines Mufflers which took away most of the hear issues. The very min I would do is get rid of the Cat with new head pipes. Good luck. If I can help in any way send me a private message.

I turned down the extended warranty, but thats just me, like all insurances they only good if you need them, I figure if something is going wrong its going to happen in the first 2 years of owning it. Like i said in my first reply I've only owned the trike since December and I don't have a lot of experence with it so far, so I'm going to turn this post to some others that can probably help you much better than I.
Another good advice I can give you is to get your rear fenders covered with clear protective film, you can probably get a better price at a autobody shop that installs invistable bras and window tints than at the Harley shop

I have two dealers here that are vying for my attention. When it gets closer to purchase time I'll be heading in with very specific paperwork to prove I am not talking B.S. Perhaps that might give them the needed "push" to go ahead and write a deal........

best upgrades are a S&S gear cam 511, performance machine stage 1 rear brake kit.
paul yippes 10" BAGGER bars. (all you nees are a 12" TBY extension,4"over clutch cable)
and swap to RED LINE all syn. gear oil for the tranny, spectro, or R/L 20x60 syn., motorcycle oil. do this soon. just suggestions.

I have a 2012 that I got last August and absolutey love it. I have almost 4,000 miles on it and we are planning a 1,500 mile trip to Blue Ridge Parkway in May. I have added a lot of the goodies that have been discussed on this site. I did put on the 1" floor board extenders to move my legs away from the exhaust. Seems to help, the real test will be this summer... Enjoy and be safe ....

I hjave a 2012 Tri Glide. It is my first Trike.
Other than the heat from the cat I really like it.
The Tri Glide and I are getting more and more famliar with each other as time goes by.

What I have done so far to address the heat issue is
1. added Screaming Eagle A/C
2. added Harley Fatshotz slip ons
3. added Harleys race tuner
4. had a custom made leather heat guard for my thighs
5. added 1" floorboard spacers

I will not remove the head pipes(way too costly for me).
I have not ridden in real hot summer heat yet so maybe I might change my mind on that. I'll have to wait and see.

One thing I can't do is remove the fairing lowers because my woofers are in them - so that's a bummer.

One thing to think about is everyone has a different toleraance for heat, so it may be best to wait and see just what YOU need to do for the heat.

Take your time to learn how to ride a trike. A friend of mine just told me he test rode a trike the other day and it scared the $hit out of him. I told him to take a little longer to test it because it does take some getting use to. Fortunately I got to ride one during my dealers demo days. I was a volunteer sweep on the rides and not many people wanted to ride the TG so I took it everytime I could,

Additionally:
I added the rear lift kit and bumper.
I also bought 8' of 3M paint protector and made templates for all the vulnerable areas, cost = $50 a helluvalot cheaper then the Harley kit and I have lots left over for back up pieces.

Hello,
Will this be your first trike? Having the next few weeks before you make your purchase, you can greatly increase your choice of trike being the best choice by test-riding as many different types of trikes as you possibly can. Trikes vary in their ride quality, power or lack of power, handling, cornering and how hard or easy they steer. Our Cheetah Trikes have the radiator located in the rear, so all the very hot air goes out of the radiator, behind the trike. Riders feel very little engine or exhaust heat riding a Cheetah. The Cheetah has a fully automatic transmission with a regular reverse that is much better than an electric reverse. It has the power and performance to provide all the feel and thrill of motorcycle riding. The Cheetah has a 1-year engine and drivetrain warranty, which is long enough to confirm all is well or it would have shown up within that first year. Most importantly, the Cheetah is totally stainless, marine and aircraft aluminum fabricated to last forever and very few people will ever wear out the engine, transmission or rear end, because they are made to last 100,000 plus miles in vehicles weighing 2 to 3 times the weight of a Cheetah before any overhauls with just regular maintenance and oil changes. Call us at 812-256-9199 if you have any questions or would like to schedule a Cheetah test-ride.

The sad truth about trikes is that each trike manufactured has pros and cons. I own a Harley trike and a Honda trike.

The Harley looks better in my opinion but, I feel the Honda rides better and there is no doubt has better performance ( stock ) and less heat off the engine. My Harley is great for around town on cooler days and in the cooler months of the year I take it on 400 mile breakfast runs with the wife. In the summer months I take the Honda. Could I ride the Harley in the summer... of course as I really don't mind the heat at times but when I was in AZ last year and it was 126 I was glad I was on the Honda.

Everyone on here as a trick or two up their sleeves to help ward off the heat from the Harley some may work for you and some might not work. Is the Tri-Glide a good trike... sure it is. Is the heat a problem... that's up to you! ThumbUp

Wife and I have '09 and '11 Tri-Glides. 30,000 nearly trouble free miles on the '09, 10,000 on the '11. We got the extended warranty on both. The 09 is on it's 3rd radio, at $1400 a pop, we've paid for the warranty. Both trikes are nearly stock, we added the Harley SE air intakes, and slip-on mufflers. No tuners, Cats are still in, and we ride mostly in the South-West where it does get very hot in the summer. Never had a problem. We run synthetic oil, stock oil coolers, and I replaced the air temp gages with oil temp gages. She was on 2 wheels 15 years, I was for 50. I had a more difficult time 'converting', but would be hard pressed to go back. Good Luck, ride it like you stole it and enjoy the hell out of it.

I sprung for a 2012 TG. I'm happier than a pig in $tuff. Only have 450 miles on her but so far its fabulous. Above all, my wifey loves it more than me. I've been told that it will be HOT, we'll see. I had a 2008, I don't believe anything can be hotter than it was.

I have received a few messages about the "hot" issue. Find it hard to believe that anything could get hotter than the old '77 Ironhead I had many years ago......

It gets real hot. I have a 2011 tri-glide. Had exhaust changed, the engine built for more power & many other options before I ever picked the bike up from the dealer. Rode my friends 2010 trike & knew the issues with heat & low power. I would change the headers & mufflers & a tuner. That should make a big difference over stock, & not break the bank. Just my thoughts Jim

I haven't had my trike very long but before it left the dealership I had them install the rear chrome bumper, SERT, and Vance and Hines exhaust as well as the stage 1 download. I have about 3500 miles on it so far and I have to say that I can feel the heat on my right foot when I have it on the footboard. Most of the time I ride with my feet on the crash bar footpegs. It does take getting used to after riding two wheels for so long but I love it and all of the storage space. Good luck in your choice.

welcome aboard. the extended warrantee depends if you do any of your own work. If you will be going to the dealer with everything then you MIGHT consider it. like ohio eddie said most likely a issue will show in the first 2 years. It's really about your comfort.

also check out T-glide stuff.com , i have installed Dennis's wind deflectors and the lift brackets. both work excellent. my '09 t/g is now a pure joy to ride. i installed a 13"
aftermarket windshield from freedomshields.net, & the wind deflectors from Dennis
now the wind buffeting is gone . i also have a oil temp gage installed from a jaggs
universal large oil cooler installed in the l/h crash bar area. with the oil cooler thermostat in-line to the engine inlet side of the oil cooler line. and so far 185* is my normal
running oil temp. granted the (OAT) out-side-air-temp has been 80* or less, and i run on the freeway. so i'm very satisfied with the options i have installed.
hope this helps. roll on -throttle-up.

Paying cash carries no weight, if you finance with them they they make money on the financing and if you do your on financing they get a payoff check from the people you went with.
