Cleaning Question: What cleans brake dust on stock Harley Aluminum Wheels?

My rear wheels have some brake dust that appears to be baked on. What does everyone use to clean their (stock) aluminum rear wheels?

Lon.....I use McKees ''37'' wheel cleaning kit....Gell foam and wheel protector spray..

I use White Diamonds metal polishing liquid, works good for me, after a ride before putting away I grab a rag and window cleaner and wipe the rims down.




I have a ball style that goes into drill to help polish them, started doing it by hand, the drill ball works better, then you wipe it down after your are done it is a foam rubber style ball and also has cone style that works good on front rim, got all of this things at Walmart

Well I'm sure you used windshield washer fluid... windshield cleaner will stain the wheels if completely removed after use ( amonia) just sayin

I always used Zephyr Pro 40 cleaner on my 15, almost 30,000 miles and still look good.

Zammy a light coat of Maguire's wheel polish makes them a little brighter

I use my OEM wheels for winter use in Chicago and use H-D Anarchy chrome wheels for summer. I do not do anything to the OEM wheels since they were ruined after the first winter. Not going to waist any of my precious time on them.....nobody looks closely at them in the winter anyway.

Any mfg that sells a vehicle with bare aluminum wheels should be shot.

For my chrome wheels, I use Windex to clean and spray wax for protection....all easy to apply products.....I hate using elbow grease. :laugh:

I second, using BKF, at first I was hesitant, (cause I never heard of this stuff) BUT once I used it, my rims now shine, I also applied "Mothers rim cleaner/polish.. This also helped shine my rims, then I just use wax, and this protects the shine...
(I believe I purchased this BKF cleaner a Home Depot)

My last ride of the year, last season, I was ride'n with a group of maybe 15 -20 bikes at an organized outing in my hometown.... Next to me was a Honda Goldwing, His rims lQQk'd like they never were cleaned, I swear there was at least an inch of crud on his rims , I was parked, next to him, and he was check'nn out my wax'ed bike, with high'ie polished rims, WOW, did I feel, real good just know my rims were polished, and shin'ie...as well, as the rest of my TRIKE, It gave me great pride!! My TRIKE will never leave the garage until she at least washed...EVERY time it rains (like I mentioned in other posts) I will give my TRIKE another coat of wax.. I KEEP TRACK OF EVERYTHING I DO TO MY BIKE, FROM every nut and bolt replaced, to every wax job I've done since she was brand new, w/ zero miles.

I fought the OEM rims on my 2016 trike and on my 2019 trike. Countless hours of cleaning and buffing month after month. Finally, I pried the money out of my wallet and had them chromed. Even if my time was worth $5.00 an hour it was well worth it.

I powder coated mine. One of the best things I’ve done to the bike. Shine up fine!!!

I'm also a fan of powder coating my wheels. I've done it to my last 2 bikes and just might do the front wheel on this one when it comes time for a tire change. I think I paid right around $100 a rim. 1 huge benefit is that all I have to do is give the rims a blast of lemon pledge and they wipe clean with little effort. Very easy to do. I have always gone with a silver metal flake. When clean, they gleam nicely in the sun.
