Carrying bicycle

I want to carry a bicycle on my 02 Roadsmith GL1800.
I believe I can remove the bumper attached to the receiver and place a bike/cargo carrier designed for the receiver hitch.

Is there a way of carrying a bike safely without removing my bumper?

I'm not sure what kind of bumper you have Bob but if it plugs into the trailer hitch receive then I'd say it was designed to be removed for just such instances and you are wanting to do.

Looking at you profile pictures it looks like your rear bumper is in the receiver. At least from the one showing part of the back of your motorcycle. So it would appear that you are exactly correct you will have to remove your rear bumper in order to put your bike rack on. You can buy a RS bumper, it bolts to the frame under the bottom trunk. Then you could have both. You could easily sell your slide in bumper, if that is what it is.

You can look at his profile. There are pics there. It has a nice looking bumper on it.
