car tire

Hi

EML and Eurowing use Car tyres on the front. Many sidecar owners also do the same. They all get astonishing mileage out of them and road holding is extremely positive, I got 40.000 of my last front tyre.( Eurowing) But the problem for the normal GL trike is that these wheels are 15-16 inch wheels and are made to fit these tyres. All sidecar racing outfits wouldn't even look at a normal bike tyre. Having a smaller wheel and car tyre makes the handling much quicker on the turns but quite stiff to move around when stationary.

ride safe if not slowly

Sidecar Rigs that properly run Automotive tires on front and back are designed, produced, and modified accordingly and are quite different than Standard Rigs and Vastly different from Trikes. No accurate correlation can be made regarding the use of "Auto Tires". Other than "Push/Pull" steering, there are no similarities or analogous comparison that exists between Sidecars and Trikes what so ever.

The Can-Am REVERSE TRIKE is designed so that the front TWO tires steer in a "zero camber" (similar to "center-hub" type single front modification on a HP Racing Sidecar Tug/Rig). They properly run Auto Tires as they keep the contact surface flat as it moves through the steering range. As above, No correlation can correctly be made between Reverse Trikes and Standard Trikes other than both have 3 wheels. Standard Single front tire/wheel Trikes still camber as they turn/steer which rotates a flat/Auto tire out and onto the edges where the tread surface meets sidewall. That is risky and detrimental to the Tire and its strictural integrity which creates the possibility of directly leading to catastrophic failure. According to Tire Manufacturers and Engineers/Scientists anyways....

Before the stoning begins, I am not "knocking" or judging anyone that chooses to "dark side" (very appropriate moniker) at all. Just stating Facts. Nothing more-Nothing less.
