I was having a discussion with a two-wheeled friend the other day about a fatality of another biker due to a blowout. It got me thinking about the existence of established and proven procedures for blowouts on a trike based upon which tire might fail. I looked through the thread on Trike Accidents and did not find anyone that had addressed this topic directly.
Other than what I would expect to be the recommended "don't slam on the brakes, and slow the trike as gently as possible" (which would apply to any vehicle) what recommendations are there based upon various conditions of (1) front tire blowout (2) rear tire blowout (either side), and even trailer tire blowouts when towing?
Do any of our MSF Trike or GWRRA trike instructors have established procedures they teach?
Have any of you experienced a catastrophic tire failure on a trike, or even a flat that required you to react quickly? (what did you do)
I look forward to your responses.
