I happened to be in Dothan today and as always had to have lunch at THE BLUE PLATE CAFE. They happen to be next door to Dothan Power Sports. So I had to go WINDOW SHOPING. While there I ask a guy if he knew ZOOK? He said sure they had done a lot of business together and he had nothing but good things to say about him. One of my theories is a GOOD REPUTATION is important and looks like the CHIEF has one in DOTHAN.

I love the Blue Plate too Bob, best home style cooking in Dothan and responsible for adding a few LBs over the years.

I have some life-long friends at Dothan Powersports. They sent us business on trike conversions and used bikes and we sent them business on new bikes, 4-wheelers and watercraft and we bought all our Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Polaris parts from them when we were doing service work. We also sponsored their annual Toys For Tots Run every year. They are good people and keep a ton of inventory.

Hey Lucky, forgot to ask you. Is Dothan Powersports putting in an Indian Motorcycle dealership in the same building as The Blue Plate? I had heard they were.

Don't worry, I somehow manage to piss off enough people to keep the 'like VS dislike' ratio realistic....keeps my ego in check. I've learned in 40 years of dealing with the public you will never make everyone happy no matter how hard you try.

I grew up with those DPS guys and we supported each other through good times and bad. Their business manager worked for me and two of their techs came to work for me. We traded them back and forth a few times over the years, that's how small town business operates, not a large labor pool.

The powersports industry was going like a freight train up until '08, '09, '10 about the same time I was recovering from a bad accident. Between those guys and my friends at the Harley shop sending us business, we were able to survive and learn how to not operate on borrowed money. Being a slave to the banks is thankfully something we no longer choose to deal with.

We love riding to Dothan, and we were just there yesterday after riding to Eufaula for BBQ at Phil's. No trip to Dothan is complete witout a stop at Dothan Powersports and Dothan Harley. I'm not sure what they are building at Dothan Powersports, but it's been going on for awhile.

FWIW, Dothan as one of the most motorcycle friendly cities that I have ever ridden through. People seem very aware of us, and in all of our years riding there we have never even had a close call.

We have a friend who owns a couple of buy here pay here lots in Dothan. When visiting one week, he took us to a great steakhouse in Dothan. Not fancy just great. Then took us south of town to Karaoke in a double wide trailer

Steve, the steakhouse you speak of was probably The Conestoga Steak House on US 231. It's a little hole in the wall mom and pop joint, but great steaks, home fries and the best home made yeast rolls you've ever tasted. That has been a local favorite for 20 years and won the Alabama Beef Cattleman's Association steak house of the year last year. There's always a line to get in the place but its well worth the wait. The double wide trailer Karaoke joint I dont have a clue on. Never been much of a Karaoke singer.

Zook
Absolutely the Conestoga. The karaoke was south of town about 30 miles toward Panama City. Seems like there was a big flea mrket not far from there.

Conestoga was one of the best steaks I have eaten and the prices were equally as good. we liked Dothan

Steve,
As you may have noticed, there's not much entertainment in Dothan but there's a restaurant on every corner. Hunt's Seafood & Oyster Bar is another great mom and pop joint if you like fresh gulf seafood and Apalachicola Bay oysters, which are about as good an oyster as you will find anywhere. Hunt's and Conestoga are our go to joints in Dothan.

When we're on the road, we always try to give our business to the mom and pop's and use our Trip Advisor phone app to find the good spots. Here is a local place it took us to last year near Baton Rouge just off I-10. Its called Bergeron's, the ribs and catfish were pretty good, but the 10% discount for carrying was the coolest thing about the joint. The owner said his business jumped by 20% when he put the sign up. I flashed my front pocket Kahr CM9 and got my 10% off.

Many fond memories of Eufaula, my younger brother lives in Eufaula and works for Alabama Power. We had a cabin on White Oak Creek on Lake Eufaula for years and spent nearly every weekend there grilling, fishing and taking the kids water skiing and riding our waverunners...loved it there.

I've eaten at Phils many a time and at the time I thought it was some of the better BBQ I had ever had until I moved to Texas and found out what real BBQ was. This Texas BBQ is truly in a whole other league.

As for the motorcycle scene in Dothan, its healthy lots of riders but I wouldn't say its all that safe as a rider. I still read the local news every day and it seems like every other week someone has a serious motorcycle accident.

Hey guys there is an old guy (mid 70's)that did fiberglass car parts in Dothan- he also built trike body's for motorcycles conversions and he built blue bird motor coach parts for my buddy in Bainbridge ga. wanted to build the body for my trike build but by the time I make a ruff body in the size it takes to go over engine and transaxle on my build and go down to dothan I think I can do it here easier - can't think of his name- have his info in motor home but I've been up grading interior and I will be a couple weeks figuring out where I put stuff,,,, but a cool old guy he sold his shop last year but will come over to ga. do work for me if I need him to....
