Battery Tender Reading

Battery Tender Puzzling

I like to keep my battery fully charged and last night I attached my battery tender.

For a long time, the light stayed on a solid red

After a while, I checked on it again and the red light was blinking.

It say's that it indicates my battery was over 80% charged.

If it was, why didn't the light just turn green indicating a full charge.......

That's just the way they designed it to work. I think once it reaches 80% the rate of charge slows down until a full charge is achieved then the unit switches to maintenance and the green light comes on. Mine does the same thing.

On my battery tender of the red light is flashing it means there is a bad connection . When the green light is flashing it is almost fully charged.

First, it won't go green at 80%. It will go green when fully charged and the tender goes into maintenance mode.

Secondly, suggest you plug it in any time you have your bike parked in it's "spot".

I've done this. Although Battery Tender suggests battery replacement at 5yrs, I want to see just how long mine will go. It's in it's 10th year now!!!!!!!!

I for one don't trust battery tenders.
Ive had a few different brands all have failed. Eventually.
Cars Ive stored, my yamahas battery only 2 years old and an AGM has gone bad.
Best thing in my opinion is to test the battery every now and then with a voltage meter. Once a month.
If its fully charged it should be as much as 13.4 when a charger shuts off. A tender should keep it between 12.4 to 12.8 volts.
12.4 volts and your battery may not make it through the winter.
If in the upper 11s. You have a bad cell. Or a parasitic device. Something slowly draining the battery and I don't mean the clock.:AGGHH:

This is the one I use and have never had a bad battery that it did not detect... I use mine 24 / 7 / 365 as they do not cook your battery.... I have a number of them on everything... all bikes & trikes, Boats, Cars & Trucks and my gate battery... they also do fine on Deep Cycle Batteries.... They are available at Tractor Supply & Northern Tool / I've tried Battery Tender Brand and they do no work correctly... http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...2201_200332201

I've had that kind for at least 10 years. One sorta fried about 4 years ago but the other 2 are still working fine. Supposed to de-sulfate as well or something like that but have no idea if it did on any of the many batteries they've been on. Always want to replace that one so maybe this is the time because price was stopping me.

Blinking red means it is not connected properly. My Battery Tender Jr flashes green at 80% and solid green at full charge. Solid red means it is not up to the 80%. I think most are the same. I have found this brand to work well.

Maybe there is something wrong with mine. It blinks back and forth from green to red over and over and......

Thanks for the great write up Bob.ThumbUp
I just placed an order.

All to yourself Baldy....

LMAO no, I do have 2 already, not that make, and I will certainly keep one for myself. Need just one more for my generator battery as well as 2 deep cycle batteries. The generator has a cord charger but it won't stretch to the shed.

PS They are on the truck be here shortly.

Any chance your battery is the problem? When my tender flashes or steady red, And it's connected properly its a bad cell and the battery is shot...

Every battery I connect it to must be bad then. So nope, I think it bit the dust for some reason. I still can't believe it. Won't throw it out until I put it on a battery that needs a charge. Everything is up to snuff right now. Be the first Battery Tender Junior that's gone south on me.

:Agree:

I have had one Battery Tender Junior go bad also. The charger body itself became extremely hot to the touch prior to its failure and erratic operation.:AGGHH:
