Battery drain?

I just replaced my battery in 08 GW.Only had the trike a few weeks and figured the battery was old. After replacing everything looked good and bike started fine. Next day the new battery is completely dead. Put a trickle charger on for a few hours and checked the battery and it was not charging up. Removed the battery and put the charger back on and it started charging. Anyone been through this before and have any suggestions? Thanks for any help!

I killed my battery while on vacation a few years ago when I accidentally bumped the light switch in the (lower) trike trunk. Replaced the battery and just by dumb luck opened the trunk and the light was on. Old battery was 4 years old anyway, so no big loss.
Your problem could be as simple as that, or it could be much harder to locate the drain. Good luck.

When that battery gets to full charge (and you could also have a bad new battery),attach the possitive cable, then in between the ground cable and negitive battery post, hook up a DC volt meter. Then watch the meter over a period of time and see if it drops. It should not drop but very little if any. That will tell you if its a problem in bike system.Your repair manual explains just how to do this and how much the voltage drop should be.

Thanks cscsonny. I will do that today. Still trying to figure out why the battery wouldn't charge while in the bike. Took it out and put it on charger and started charging right away.

Not sure but I think u should see little to no voltage if you connect between neg terminal on battery and the diconnected neg wire. There may be some because the clock is running but should be negligible .

Thanks to msrpveig! I finally got free today to check out the Wing. Charged the battery back up and reinstalled it. First thing I did was check the trunk and the light was indeed on!! Yay! Thought I was in for a repair bill for sure. Thanks to all who replied. Hope I can return the favor and help someone else out. Harry
