Baffling Question

I’m trying to assist a good friend. He rides a 2022 with the 114 engine and has V&H Twin Slash round slip ons. It just too quiet for him. The baffles are about 18”, louvered style with no packing. Before we ruin the baffles by modifying them, we had another idea. We want to wrap them with header wrap essentially sealing the louvers. Our thought is, since the louvers still extend into the flow path, we would not increase reversion. We don’t mind experimenting with the sound but we don’t want to restrict the flow. Any problems with this idea? Thanks for any thoughts or ideas.

Removing the cat may be exactly what is needed. He doesn’t want “obnoxious”, just a little more sound volume.
Still, the question is, will tightly wrapping the louvered baffles in any way restrict the exhaust flow and increase back pressure? Another way of asking, is there exhaust flow around the outside of an unwrapped, louvered baffle?

That’s a baffling question!

Seriously, the baffles merely buffer, dampen, and absorb the exhaust pulses going through the pipes. There is an art to making mufflers from size, number, and shape of the openings to the diameter and length of the inner and outer pipes. Complicate that even further with whether they are unpacked or packed and what type of material.

If a person doesn’t know what they are doing, you can end up down a deep rabbit hole chasing one thing that creates 3 more problems. Removing the cat is for sure one of them, but it MOST DEFINITELY does improve the sound on an M8 if done correctly.

My suggestion would be to get ahold of a Tuner that actually knows what parts work best together. An example would be to give Bob at Fuelmoto a call and tell him what you got and what your expectations are. He’ll then tell you what you need in order to achieve it while ensuring that your bike runs properly.

Without seeing pics of the baffles from all directions there's no way to give a definite answer.Unless someone recognized them from experience. Alot of baffles have a restrictor to force the exhaust to the outside and then back to the center for exhaust. Some performance baffles are simply straight through. Also the length of the baffle also makes a difference.

I forgot to take pictures. The baffles are open (straight through) design. They are 18” long, have 6 spiral rows of louvers and 2” O.D.
