Avon Trike Tire I hope its all its cracked up to be.

I put my Avon trike tire on at 27770 miles. I now have 36171 on the bike so that is 8401 miles on my Avon. I love the way the trike handles with that Avon tire but really do not like the few miles I have on it. Tire looks to me that it is just past the wear bars. What do you think?

Sure looks like it to me......But that said the center of a motorcycle tire will ware much sooner on a trike than a bike.....I rode my Tri-Glide's stock front tire 3 or 4 thousand miles past the ware bars with out any problems ....And i'm not a hero if i thought they would need to be changed at that point i would have, Like i did on my two wheelers...

Ya I am thinking about trying to get a few more miles out of it. In two weeks I leave for a 1200 mile trip. I think it may be ok for that. I would love some opinions on this.

That's what my tire looked like at 9400 miles running 38 psi cold. I replaced the tire.

There is a definite trade off between tire ride, handling and comfort versus tire longevity and mileage.

I will choose tire ride, handling and comfort over longevity /mileage every time.

I think that is not good. As I've mentioned on this thread, when my Avon Cobra is down to the wear bars, I'm done, either back to the BT 45, or Stone 709.

I have less than 200 miles on it but I think I like the way the BT45 feels better than the Cobra.Sticky, confidence inspiring in hard corning definitely goes to Cobra but the trike just has a freeer feel to it with the 45.I think the 45 holds well as fast as I should be cornering anyway and the style I use with it to corner hard is just more fun.I think I was on track for about 8k or so out of the Cobra. It was about half wore out at 4k.One thing to keep in mind when comparing these is the Cobra starts off with about 3/32 less tread than the 45.

Finally someone else has said it better then I may have. Thanks Marc. Id much rather have gotten another MPA or the 45 myself before the Avon. Live and learn as they say.

Running MPA reversed and I am just about to turn 50K put on at 11K with dyna beads and the cupping is hardly noticeable, yet it rides like a truck. Will switch to a Avon shortly.

There is no perfect one

It looks like no tire is 100% do everything, I wish Avon put more rubber on this tire. Even though the Avon trike is the only tire I know. I put it on when I bought the trike. It had a Mich with 20000 miles badly cupped, and now have 20k on the Avon with little cupping.

I see guys getting better miles for $50 less with the BT-45. With better miles maybe reduce that tire's pressure for softer ride ? All I got on a front BMW 2 wheeler was 22/25k

We are coming up on 20k miles on the Avon trike tire 2 up always. Killer likes being along.. It has a little cupping. Maybe 3 to 4k left ? My first trike so don't have a comparison. The only reason I see to use another is more ply's for safety. We did the Bear Tooth Chief Joseph and Glacier couple times on this tire and look for scenic rides. I have been riding slower on the trike verses 2 wheels in twists, but we do 80 on Interstates. I guess if you push a tire too hard none of them will last long.
