has anybody install a auxilliary fuel tank on a 1800 csc trike

Am a big believer in the auxiliary fuel tank. It was one of the first things added to the trike after I bought it.

In order to install the CSC tank the body has to be removed.

The nice thing about the CSC tank is there is no extra wiring because the auxiliary tank is
filled through the main tank.

One of the mistakes I made when ordering my CSC conversion, was not getting the auxiliary fuel tank. My max right now is about 100 miles before fueling. An auxiliary tank is in my future, maybe next winter.

thanks did you do it or a dealer and what was labor cost i can only find a honda dealer not a trike dealer here in new london ct.

why so low i can get 150 riding two up but the bikes i ride with 2 wheelers they go about 250 a tank

thanks hi can a back yard mechanic do it i work on cars all my life i change the tubo 350 trany to a 700r4 in the boss hoss trike but i had help and he is no longer here i sold the boss the best i could get was 14 MPG not good

I'm in Southeast Alaska, the nearest dealer/installer is at least 900+ miles away. With my brother's helping hand and some verbal support from a good friend, I tackled the job.

I had the body off getting some fiberglass work, so it was fairly easy to lower the trike kit enough to get the tank into the frame. Somewhere I read where someone removed the fuel tank and fitted it that way rather then remove the body and drop the kit.

For me the big hesitation was when it came to drilling a hole in the bottom of a perfectly good fuel tank.

Would I do it again? You Bet!!!!

BTW: When I opened up the fuel tank, I found the nozzle to a jerry jug. Proof that the previous owner could have used an auxiliary fuel tank at least one time.

I had the aux., tank installed when the conversion was being done and I couldn't be happier.

While the tanks fill more slowly because of the gravity flow, it works well without the concern of a failed fuel pump between tanks.

I'm getting 33.5 mpg with the Gl1800 so with the total of ten gallons of fuel I find the range excellent. My fuel warning light comes on around the 60 miles left range! So far that has been well within range of service stations!

I never got the best of mileage when it was just 2 wheels. I'm 6'2" and weigh 390#, so I was over the weight limit then and paid for that with low MPG. Now I am in the weight limit, but I am still pulling that weight, plus the weight of the conversion, and I would be lying if I said I ride only the speed limit. Around here we have speed limits up to 85 on the Tollway around Austin and I do like running closer to 90/95 when on those roads. That really sucks up the fuel. My wife will be riding with me as well at times and on trips. I might see if I can get it dyno tuned and see if that helps. I got all the power I need, but it does drink the fuel. Most of all, I need to ease up on the throttle and smell the flowers.

I would like to have some extra fuel without carrying a can. I know I can make my own alum. tank and I have looked at some small fuel cells made for race vehicles, but I need to figure out where it can go. I have several things to install on my TG and hope to figure out a placement while doing those installations.

Anyone know the cost of the CSC auxiliary tank and if there is any photos or illustrations of where it is located on a Harley? I looked on the CSC site and they sure don't believe in photos or illustrations, even on their own instruction PDF's.

</div> I ordered one from CSC and installed it myself. I did it without taking off the bodywork. Due to a leak from the initial tank they sent me I had to do it again. You get better the second time. I love having the extra fuel now but had I known about the difficulty of installing it I would have had it done when I had the trike kit installed. I've had no problems with the second tank and like having the extra fuel. Over 300 miles now before fill up. <img src="images/smilies/bozo.gif" border="0" alt="" title="clown" class="inlineimg" />

Ok guys. I've got a couple of "dumb" (?) questions coming your way. Last fall I bought a '95 1500 with a CSC trike kit that included an auxilary tank. So, where is it? How many gallons does it hold? How will I know when the regular tank goes over to the aux. tank? When I fill my tank, does it automatically fill the reserve tank too? Sorry guys, but an auxilary tank is new to me, and the PO didn't give me any info on it. Thanks for your input.

I'm in Illinois and bought the trike from a guy in Washington state. He sent a list of everything the trike had on it, including the auxilary tank, but didn't say where it was located or any other facts about it. Like I said, I am in Illinois and we still have snow!! 3-4" last night!! Roads are somewhat dry but still covered with salt. Guess I have to wait just a little langer to try the new ride out. By the way, thanks for all the info guys.
